Just out of curiosity, how does one go about getting a tent on the boulevard?

Blvd. Tents?

re: "Just out of curiosity, how does one go about getting a tent on the boulevard?"

Well that depends what you mean.

If you want one of the permanent tents north of Binkley Blvd you can rent them from SMU on a per game basis by calling 214-768-2582.

South of Binkley Blvd you can erect your own tent.

People that purchase parking spaces along the Blvd usually erect their tents in front of their parking spots, but there is room for you even if you do not buy a parking spot.

Navy blue, red, or white tents are encouraged and are available for purchase in the Spirit Shop in the Loyd Center. You can also buy erectable tents at most sporting good outlets.

The instant "pop-up tents" are by far easier to use and break-down. Some NCAA internet outlets sell school tents, and they did offer an SMU Tent, but as of last season I was unable to find anyone still offering an "SMU Logo" tent. So I bought a pop-up tent and had a custom SMU logo placed on it.

Our tent is shown in the avatar of this post.

We set up just south of Binkley on the west side of the Blvd.

Stop by for a Brat and say howdy next season.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

re: How does a visiting fan get a spot?

Just show up and find a spot south of Binkley.

You may have to move slightly if you stake out the regular spot of someone that comes to every game.

Some of the people with the parking spaces do not erect tents so there are always spots open for people to set up.

I would think in the future when SMU starts winning again, the athletic department is going to need to get more organized on the BLVD spaces and actually have assigned/reserved spots on the BLVD for regulars.

For the time being it's ok, but I can see a day when some squabbles could happen if someone sets up in the spot someone else has been tailgating for years.

Hmmm, how about trailer smokers? Are they allowed?

Yes, but the problem might be finding a place to park as the Boulevard is probably the only place you could do it. Other tailgating areas are restricted to electric and propane grills. I suggest you call the Mustang Club office, 214 SMU CLUB, and see if they can help you make arrangements. It may just be a matter of parking the trailer on the large median and then parking somewhere else...or working a deal out with someone who has parking privelges on the "Vard".

Good luck...we are looking forward to seeing Baylor in Ford Stadium...though I hear Bear meat is not very tasty.

Isn't this the smoker that someone parks on The Boulevard before some home games? Perhaps Homecoming...?

There are now several 'semi's like that rolling around the country. if it's not the same one, it's similar.

As for the smoker/trailer. the only way you could get it out there is if you find a sympathetic ponyfan that has a parking pass on the boulevard. I do, and I'm not (i bring my own).
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
