I thought that was a good interview and made me excited for the year. To be honest I bet he dropped Syracuse into the conversation to rile you all up. Especially when he complimented his own recruiting.
And just like the pencilled in comment regarding Rice.
The man is deadpan. He's not a screamer like others.
And he managed 7 wins in a "rebuilding" season.
Look this is not a crack at June but just hoping someone would inform him because that was embarrassing. That show was heard by more than just us. So please don't start making up excuses out of thin air again because the point is to get him up to date and not pretend that the situation of being uninformed does not exist. This is not the time to argue but to get him the correct info. That's all.

I'm not seeing anything in that interview that needs excusing.

You made the excuse about him saying that about Syracuse on purpose not me. Look I know you are a hard core jj supporter but this is making you look foolish. What you are saying kind of reminds me of the some of the people in "The Emperor's New Clothes" that would not tell the King the truth. I hope the 1000's of people that heard that don't know Syracuse is in another league or that he thinks the only way to get to a BCS bowl game is by winning all the games. I am not here to argue with you but I just hope the SID or someone heard that and can get him properly informed before he does his next public interview. Stuff like that does not help our recruiting nor our image.

I understand what you are saying Reb. I don't think you are trying to put June down or anything. Hopefully someone will let June know about both situations before he says them again to the media.

June can say what he wants. People will attack him regardless and I don't think he cares. Not should he
I am a hard core SMU supporter. I have plenty of problems with June but I accept the way he is. He won't be the last SMU coach ever and there is much I admire about the way he teaches.

He is a very good teacher and I think he would appreciate someone informing him of the current status. Obviously he can't just say want he wants because if he says certain things it will get him or any other coach fired like Mangino. I think he is just as Ponyscott said misinformed. It happens.

While the comment about Syracuse's line was an unfortunate gaff, the comment above about Shead is accurate. Also liked what he had to say about offenses being cyclical. Don't see the interview overall as an embarrassment, but would like to see some more enthusiasm from him at times.

Right on JoeKidd. Syracuse was a misstatement. He was wrong. To me its not a big deal. This is nitpicking. But, if someone whats to get upset over it then go ahead. However, if Jones believes Shead is the best running back athletically that he has ever coached then whats wrong with his statement? Third, I wish we could focus on enjoying the SMU football team and the coming year. If we have a bad season then Coach Jones is responsible. However, if we have a good season - will Coach Jones get credit for it on this board? Probably not.

When I heard it, I thought he misspoke and meant Rutgers. Oh well, I've certainly had my share of brain freezes.
