UT Season Tix Sales Down for 3rd Straight Year

Postby ponyinNC » Wed Jul 31, 2013 8:23 am

Texas has never had season tickets drop in three consecutive years during the Mack Brown era … until now.

According to numbers obtained from Texas by Orangebloods.com, the Longhorns' football season tickets sold are down 8,200 over the past three seasons from a record high of 84,500 sold for the 2010 season, when Texas followed up a BCS national title game appearance against Alabama by finishing 5-7.

The season tickets sold dropped by 2,900 for the 2011 season to 81,600; dropped by 2,800 for 2012 to 78,800; and are currently down 2,500 from last season at 76,300 for 2013.

Texas lists a single, Tier 1 season ticket (the lower-level seats along the sidelines in DKR) at $405; Tier 2 (lower end zones and some upper deck) at $395; and Tier 3 (upper deck north end zone and corners of upper deck on the west side) at $325.

When you consider Texas had only 38,100 season tickets sold for the 1998 season, Mack Brown's first year as coach, UT is still double that number 16 years into the Mack Brown era.

It's the fans who are probably missing out.

UT probably has the best O-line in the country, they are experienced at QB, and have strong skill positions. The Big XII doesn't have a strong leader, and UT has the opportunity not only to take the conference, but also are considered a dark-horse national title contender.

Mack is going to make a strong case to stick around for a few more years.

Yeah, isn't that something! These big state schools really are in another class when it comes to fans. We're lucky to be able to keep up or recruit at all with the huge money disparity. God love us for trying.

I agree-every sign you look for to see a developing program have a big year is in place for Texas-if he doesn't get it done he should and probably will be fired or put out to pasture

i adhere to the Stallion model, which is to say that teams eventuall have a recruiting "mean reversion" as won/loss goes - especially if you measure over a few years. UT has had consistently great recruiting, so a year or two down time is all you could expect them to experience.

They will more than likely win their conference. Dont see anyone but maybe OU who can take it from them.

So if you use the same logic we can do pretty well vs AAC teams. If you factor in our transfers, we probably hold up pretty well recruiting wise vs our conference - plus we recruit in Texas which is always going to be deeper. And that is with weak effort. With some real effort we could be 1 or 2 in this conference pretty easily.

I would also blame the price...cost thousands in donations and Texas has quite the waiting list. I couldn't get season tix if I tried.

Believe that to "guarantee" TX-OU tickets as part of your season tickets requires a $500 donation or maybe it's $1,000 now

I will believe it when I see it with Texas. When Mack hasn't had a truly transcendant talent at QB (Vince Young or Colt McCoy) they've consistently underperformed given their absolutely outrageous amount of talent at other positions. Add to that Texas has tried to create about 30 different offensive identities over the past several years. The Gilbert experiment set them back a few years and they just haven't had consistent play at the position since McCoy. Who knows maybe an experienced Ash is going to light it up, but that is a kid who was BRUTAL against OU and was pulled against one of the worst BCS programs in the nation at Kansas. I think they win 8 games again in 2013.
Back off Warchild seriously.
