Unleash the dogs

Postby SMUFan » Fri Sep 06, 2002 1:48 pm

With all due respect, the only way we'll generate any significant pressure on Kingsbury is to blitz, blitz, blitz. And we'll have to send people from all angles: stunts with the defensive line, linebacker blitzes off the edge and even bringing the safeties. Rutledge and Garrett had better be ready for the games of their lives, because they'll see a lot of one-on-one coverage. And Kingsbury doesn't miss much.

We're going to have to blitz and we're going to have to tackle a hell of a lot better, or it could get ugly.

Talked to a number of players yesterday, and they made it clear blitz packages will be coming very often, and more than most pony fans have ever seen before.

I sure hope so. If we can't tackle ball-carriers downfield, we'd damn-well better hit Kingsbury before he can get the ball to them. If he has a lot of time, we're in trouble.

Relax, folks, the defense wasn't as bad as it may have looked. Navy got what, a third of its yards on three plays? Half its yards? The long pass to the running back and the two long runs by the QB were all our defense allowed.

And one of Wallis's INTs came when the ball was deflected at the line of scrimmage. When that happens, who knows where the ball will come down. That turnover led to the long runs (and score) by Navy. Who knows how the game might have turned out had the ball reached its target in the end zone. That was a 14-point swing.

We'll be fine.

yeah, the D-looks like they will be decent. in order to beat tech we must find a way to get the ball to Jay Taylor(15) across the middle. the 1 catch he made last week was not enough to win the ball game! (and i didnt see any drops) if Taylor can catch 5 balls tonight we'll get the win.

I sure hope you're right. I think you're crazy, but if getting the ball to Taylor means a win, I say throw it to him on every play.
