Our alumni problem is every bit what our student problem is...if not more so. The 90's were absolutely horrible but this goes back as far as I can remember. My freshman roommate was a Notre Dame fan (who wasn't accepted there and "fell back" on SMU). He needed to be encouraged to attend our games when he was in school and I doubt he has attended a game since the death penalty (about the time I moved away from Dallas). Bottom line is that disinterested students become even more disinterested alumni.

I'm sure you all know several fellow alumni who do nothing to support their school. Let's hope some success at Moody under coach Brown will bring back some bandwagon alumni who at least attended games as students. Hopefully they will get excited about SMU athletics and even decide to visit Ford at some point in the future.

All of my friends got really confused on the blvd when I kept saying I was going to the game and would meet up with them after instead of going to milos to keep drinking, BUT I managed to drag 4 of them along with me (had 4 extra tickers) to the game because I said something like "won't seeing the stadium full be cool?" and their response was pretty much "F*ck yeah, it's like real college football".

25 years of purgatory breeds apathy amongst the alumni and students that attended then. I don't blame anyone for that. I think as the years go on and we are more relevant, we'll see more alumni support and thus, more student involvement. It will be a process though. There's essentially a lost generation (obviously not everyone) that just didn't care much about SMU football IMO. I've noticed that there's more and more students and alumnus that at least are paying attention to what's going on with us than 5 years ago. Could just be my friends, but I genuinely think its an upward trend.

FWIW, we went and stood in the student section for the game (end zone tickets suck) and it was probably the best I've ever seen it, even though it eventually emptied out. If it was even close to that for every game and even if it empties out, I'd take it every damn time. Everyone seems to have A.D.D. or some BS nowadays anyway

After looking at the video of the game, and in particular, 4th quarter with 11:34 left in the game, the stands looked more packed than I've seen in the first quarter of most of our games last year. If you know the Youtube link to the SMU/Tech game, skip to 2:15:26.

I remember being at the women's final four when Baylor went for the first time and being amused at all the busloads of geriatric Baylor fans. I almost felt sorry for them - seemed that's all they had. Tennessee LSU and Michigan St had 'normal' fan bases and Baylor rolled in with a bunch of blue hairs. Looking back on it, as someone else said, that was kind of the beginning of the Baylor revival (see what I did there). Womens national title ensued, men's hoops took off, and eventually a Heisman trophy winner.. Then last year we saw a full stadium with a fan base spanning all ages. I think they kind of went through what we are currently.. We need our revival of sorts, and we need success on the court and field, and we need to not spit the bit when opportunity presents itself (see at A&M couple years ago, Tech the year before that, at Southern Miss a couple years ago, Tech this year, Baylor last year)
