we aren't going to beat tcu or tamu.
i'm not even sure about msu.
tamu game will get ugly fast. big time blow-out.
tcu has much better talent than we do but we usually give them a game.

Re: Be careful what we wish for?JJ's not a sub 500 coach, sb. You gotta give him that first year where he totally stripped us down to bare metal. He's turned this team from one of the five worst teams in the NCAA...

Re: Be careful what we wish for?
That 1-11 season didn't have to be that bad, we could have squeezed out a few more wins. The turnaround was commendable (no one really expected us to hop up to bowl eligibility in season 2) but June's still a sub .500 coach. You're right about us needing to take the next step, sooner rather later. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Please make me feel better and tell me you didn't graduate from smu.
Re: Be careful what we wish for?
Hindsight being 20/20, I think there are a number of things June might have done differently. In year 1, we didn't have the personnel to run his offense, so he should have stuck with Justin Willis. We would have been a very mediocre team, but I think we would have won about half our conference games instead of going 1-11. In year two, he showed me some willingness to adapt by adding Shawnbrey and a running attack to his playbook. This actually impressed me because it showed me June was less stubborn than I thought. He was willing to put Ws over proving his offense theories. I'm sure JJ would love to have a mulligan on the ASU debacle. I know his nose was out-of-joint over several issues including fan support. But since then, I've seen a lot of positives, such as replacing less than effective (especially as it pertains to recruiting) staff, and he really went to the mat to get Larry Brown here. He continues to drive change with the administration and admissions, which may prove to be his greatest legacy. One thing a guy like June brings (that only a handful of coaches have) is the force of public opinion (notoriety, backing of big-time alumni, and street credentials) to force change at SMU. The more we get behind the program, the more forcefully June can push for an OPF, a training table, academic support for student-athletes, expanding our school of education and a hundred other things that may not be that obvious but result in better quality on the field.
