When the official made the call he said it was " grasping an open area of the helmet".I have never heard that called before but imagine it is something new that they are calling to protect the players.

Haven't heard of grasping an open area of the helmet penalty before, but refs have been known
to make rules up as they go along.

Anybody know where they came from, or is it SMU private secret double probation
information :?:
May the forth be with us.

shame on Holman for allowing that ball to be taken from him. The call on the field was a fumble and I agree there was no CONCLUSIVE evidence Holman has stepped on the out of bounds line. Watching that replay in slow mo, Holman was on his toes and it doesn't appear the heel ever came down. It was extremely close, but not obvious enough to say he was out and play should have been whistled dead.

the difference in this week vs last week is that the guys had enough character to overcome that bad break

I watched on ESPN3 so the views were limited. It appeared that Holman wasn't in complete control of the ball when the second MSU player hit him. Thus, the official let the play continue. The OOB call was very close but the view was limited to one angle. I can't blame the refs for Holman getting stripped. He has to protect the ball better.

We made plenty of stupid penalties. They didn't kill us immediately but they did change field position. Because of penalties MSU enjoyed great field position while we struggled with getting the ball deep in our territory.

So great field position to MSU while our D looked like the Zombie Apocalypse and it was nothing but self inflicted horror.

This one wasn't the refs from my computer screen but our stupid penalties and lack of protecting the ball.

Oh, and crummy red zone execution.

And other that not being able to stop the run, allowing undersized RB to push the pile forward an extra 3-4 yards on every carry, put pressure on the QB, cover receivers and stop the pass, I thought our D looked great.
