anyone remember this 6-3 290 lb L from Allen that SMU was recruiting a couple of years ago? I pick up the paper today and see he is leaving the Clemson program and plans to transfer. Will have 3 yrs eligibility left wherever he ends up. Maybe he is interested in SMU?

Sure hope so. He was a monster in high school.
Any word on why he's leaving Clemson?

Bowden supposedly was going to give him a lot of reps in the spring game to "see if he can play in the ACC" , so I assume it was suggested he find another place to play. He may not be talented enough for the ACC, but I agree it would be nice to have him come home with 3 yrs of eligibility and be ready to join the SMU line as a mature 20/21 yr old

I know his pop...

Basically, he left Clemson for personal reasons. It had nothing to do with his talent level or his standing with the coaches. In fact, they've written him recommendations...

not to degrade the kid's ability because I don't mean to nor do I have any real knowledge about it-but coaches "ease" kids out of programs all the time by "helping them to look elsewhere". See it allows schools like Clemson to recruit 32 players a year when the program limit is 85.

Good point, Stallion. I have a friend in the media who covers Clemson, and he said LaTray just doesn't fit. He thinks the guy has talent -- and obviously has strength -- but Clemson just wasn't the right place for him. Didn't fit with some teammates, coaches, etc. Says a change of scenery might be the best thing that could happen to him.

Anyone know what's become of him? I remember him -- he was a real terror at the high school level. If a change of scenery is what's needed, I nominate SMU as a perfect destination. Come home, Clint!

I'm pretty sure SMU was recruiting him out of H.S. and sure hope we are interested. Would hate to see him return home and end up a frog or mean green eagle. This guy will have 3 yrs of eligibility remaining and might be a great addition to SMU's future OL.
