AGREED- Bring back the Pony Express Uniforms and dump the Ole Miss/NY Football Giants replicas!
Don't even get me started on the uniforms.

I can agree with "if it ain't broke don't fix it"--which is why I cannot for the life of me understand why they changed the running horse helmet logo from a red horse on a white background to a red horse on a dark blue background that looks like a paint blob from the stands. It was not broke--why did they fix it? That helmet logo change was infinitely worse than the introduction of a second marketing logo. Our helmets suck.

I don't think they suck (at least not the 2004 version, with the outline stripe around the Mustang), but they're nowhere near as good as the white helmet with the blue Mustang. That was the best helmet - maybe ever.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you meant to say white helmet with red mustang. The blue mustang was pretty bad.

Nope. Red Pony is great, but I'm one of the few (I know I'm in the minority here) who actually liked the blue Pony (white facemask, please) even better.

It would be nice if the athletic department would be more concerned with helping us have a competitive football team that has been one of the worst in the country for the last 15 years! Who cares about new logos when the team is getting humiliated on the playing field on a regular basis. Worry more about fixing the "model" that is used at SMU that causes us to have winless football seasons!!!!

Sorry for the late response. Bergermeister, I am not a plant. Just because I don't have the same feelings as you does not mean that I am covertly working for the athletic department--obviously.

"At some point all these other universities had to make the decision to adopt a sporty style for athletic logos, and it seems SMU is simply joining the ranks of most, if not all"-Imperator... Dont tell that to PennSt, ND, USC, UT, aTm, OU, stanford, and many many more... I understand though, we are trying to be like teams that have NO tradition, Boise, CalPoly, StJohns, Tulsa, etc.

Hmmmmm. I hear what you are saying about a new sporty, athletic logo, but I have always heard that the running mustang WAS the athletic logo. In fact, back in the dark days, other parts of the university would not use the running mustang as it was associated with athletics. Fortunately there are now other (enlightened) areas of the university that are using it because it is so recognizable and appealing.
