I am just spitballing here, but given the realignment scenarios that abound, could we be scheduling more B1G teams to gain access/favor with B1G conference should future expansion be on the table?
ACC grant of rights was signed - and I realize that the GOR may be attacked legally, but as of now, it is done. I recall that B1G was trying to get UVA, UNC and some other schools to bolster their geographic reach. That may now be off the table for the next decade.
B12 signed a GOR as well if I am not mistaken. So any expansion wouldn't come from that conference.
If B1G is looking to expand, and Delaney has said that realignment is far from over, the conference may be looking for new markets to enter. Dallas sure seems ripe for the picking, should Delaney wish to head south.
Probably a far-fetched scenario. We are likely scheduling this strictly as a bodybag, big money game (I've read that we will be getting over $1M for this game). UM makes about $6.5M themselves per home game.

Our Big 10 chances begin and end with us not being a huge state AAU research school. The only school in this state the Big 10 has ever been or will ever be remotely interested in is the University of Texas at Austin (the total package athletically and academically).

Of course every conference wants UT...that's a no brainer. And our lack of AAU status really hurts us in this scenario. Tulane probably has a better shot than we do. However, I read that the Indiana AD recently said B1G wants to get to 16, and that echoes what Delaney has said in the past. I'd argue that Uconn is a much better fit than we are. But if you take out the teams in current conferences with GORs or huge exit penalties, you have too look at AAC / MWC / Cusa. If you remove schools with inferior academics, there aren't that many choices left. Tulane, Uconn, SMU, Rice, Tulsa, Temple (already in footprint since RU joined). If anything, B1G may look for a school to pair with Uconn. As I said, it is likely a long shot - but we have to come to grips with the fact that B12 will never take us, nor will SEC. If we want to move up, our only shots are ACC, B1G and PAC. All longshots I know, but a man can dream.

If the B12 took TCU, then they could one day take SMU as well, assuming we can EARN it. Particularly if WVU left, or they wanted to expand back the 12 for a conference championship game, or if (when) the "Big 4" (Texas, Tech, OU, OSU) bolt for the Pac-12.

Fair enough about the dreaming but you have to allow for the possibility that these conferences will just wait to expand from much better options than G5 welfare schools. There's simply no point in any conference doing anything until these GOR deals are nearing expiration a decade from now. Remember these conferences are trying to grow their brands and increase their payouts and at this point that won't be accomplished unless they cannibalize each other (hence why some think that one of the P5 will die off during the next round of expansion).

Here's what won't happen: no current P5 public university will get left in the dust in the future, like Iowa State, Kansas, or Kansas State.

Recently I was contemplating over what schools I’d like to see the Big 12 pursue in order to get back up to at least 12, and maybe even 14 teams. As a colleague and I kicked some names around one came up that we both agreed would be a great addition to the conference if only they could get their act together. The program under scrutiny was that of the SMU Mustangs, and we both agreed that now is the perfect time for SMU to pull itself up out of the purgatory of mediocre teams in NCAA Football. SMU has been a hum-drum program for as long as I can remember, probably because I was born in 1988 and the Mustangs were recovering from their 1987 “Death Penalty†throughout the majority of my life. At the present moment, however, SMU has the funding and facilities to be much better than the 7-5 record they seem to achieve every year like clockwork. Related: SMU QB Garrett Gilbert Has One Last Chance to Prove Himself The first thing that needs to happen at SMU is a change in mindset. It appears that the bigwigs with the deep pockets in Dallas seem content with fielding a mediocre football team. That isn’t good for the future of SMU football. They need to realize that SMU is in the perfect position to jump out and improve their level of talent in a hurry, and then push to make that happen. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is oozing with talent and is normally a hotbed of recruiting battles. However, the Oklahoma Sooners are looking like they are about to enter a couple year lull and the TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Longhorns are battling each other for recruits, so the competition for SMU as far as recruiting is somewhat limited at the moment. I mean, how hard is it to convince guys from massive Dallas high schools that living in College Station would be zero fun? I’m guessing it wouldn’t be too hard of a sell, and it would allow SMU to stop having to turn to Texas throw-away players like QB Garrett Gilbert. Also, June Jones is not the guy to lead the Mustangs into the future. Sure, the head coach brought SMU back to semi-relevance, but I think he has hit his ceiling at 7-5. SMU needs to go out and grab a young coordinator on the rise in the next year or two and let that guy carry them forward. SMU is set to join the Big East for the 2013 season, and while I don’t think that conference will be playing football for much longer, it is a step forward for the Mustangs. The 2013 version of the Big East doesn’t exactly make me shake in my boots, and as a new kid on the scene SMU could take some teams by surprise. The Mustangs need to have a solid 2013 campaign in order to grab some national attention and get more stable conferences, as well as highly talented recruits, to take notice. SMU attempted to woo the Big 12 into taking them during the 2011 season, but failed to impress enough to warrant any attention. Conference realignment talk aside, SMU needs to jump on the golden opportunity that is currently sitting in front of them to become a better, more consistent program. The situation is perfect for the Mustangs, they just need to execute Read more at http://www.rantsports.com/ncaa-football ... mO33VPl.99

Not sure what all the gobbledy gook was the FTHP was spitting out in a random and turrets oriented fashion, but the answer to the question posed in the thread is quite simple.... No.
As for all the other hodge podge scenarios for when everyone's GOR runs out
SMU to Big XII It will only even happen if OU, OSU, TT and UT bolt for the Pac-16. This would leave. KU, KSU, ISU, BU, TCU, WVU. The Big Ten would then most likely pick up Virginia and UNC The ACC would then pick up WVU, Cincy, and either UCONN and Navy (FB only, works out as 16 FB and 16 BB because of Notre Dame (totally spit-balling on this one, but it makes sense)) or BU and TCU if they wanted a foot into Texas. I don't think the SEC really wants to get to 16 teams. They've already a semi pro league and don't need to share their money with anyone else That would leave the Big XII, er American Athletic, er, The Bastard Conference. Which would be KU, KSU, ISU, SMU, UH, USF, UCF, Memphis, Temple, East Carolina, Tulsa, Tulane and either UCONN and Navy or BU and TCU. So again, it would sorta be a step up, but its not the Big XII or the Big East. Its just scatter brained cluster [deleted] of schools.
SMU to ACC This would happen if the Big XII and Big Ten raped the ACC Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and FSU to the Big XII and Virginia and UNC to the Big Ten That leaves Duke, Wake, NC State, BC, Pitt, Syracuse, Lousiville and Va Tech. The ACC the scoops up Cincy, UConn, USF, UCF, and some combo or all of East Carolina and Temple and or SMU and UH.
Once again, better, but still a bacterized conference.
SMU to Pac Honestly? No. Not unless, SMU and UH win 10 games every year for a decade (we're more valuable together) and Texas, OU, OSU, Tech, TCU and BU refuse. It's more likely the Boise would become less of a truck driving school and teach kids to read good and go along with BYU then the Pac become a charity and adding SMU and UH as their 7 and 8th choices.
SO, basically someone has to get raped and everything needs to blow up and we won't ever get to the big boy table, but at least we can maybe get away from the kiddie table and pluck some turkey from the big boys. but, and a very big but, WE NEED TO START WINNING!!!!1
