Tyler Announces the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week
TYLER, Texas – SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert has been selected as The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the ninth week of the college football season.
The American Athletic Conference quarterback had a career-high and SMU-record 538 passing yards, 37 completions on 53 attempts with four touchdowns. Gilbert also ran for 97 additional yards and two touchdowns as SMU rallied for a 59-49 win over Temple. His school-record 635 yards of total offense were the seventh-most in a game in NCAA history with 500 yards passing and 100 yards rushing in a game. Gilbert’s six touchdowns were critical as SMU rallied from a 21-point deficit, the second-largest comeback in school history. Behind Gilbert, SMU rolled up 728 yards of total offense, almost 100 yards better than the previous school record (636 yards vs. TCU 9/28/1985).
