Unfortunately, once the story about how he reacted to not getting the job starts becoming more widespread, it's going to hurt his chances at other jobs.

Considering he talked about how much he had loosened up and changed, throwing a tantrum and storming out of the ADs office doesn't help his cause when he tries to present that to an interviewing athletic director.

Many don't know it outside of coaching and AD circles but Orgeron trashed the head coach's office in the Manning Center at Ole Miss (at the time the head coach's office was an almost 3,000 square foot suite) and had to be removed from the building and campus by University Police after he was fired by Ole Miss. He reacted so poorly that he wasn't allowed back on campus to address the team or the media at the press conference announcing he was being fired.

I had honestly hoped that he had gotten himself together since 2007 but it doesn't look like he's really made that much progress despite what he said on Gameday a few weeks ago.

The odds of Turner hiring someone who had a bad rep upon leaving Ole Miss are....

I dunno... Turner was boo'ed off the field at homecoming during his last year at Ole Miss (I would know... I was one of the ones booing him... little did I know I'd be following him to SMU less than a year later). I highly doubt he gives a rats behind about what anyone associated with Ole Miss says.

True... not saying Orgeron is the guy we need, but I wonder if Turner's Ole Miss connections will rule him out prematurely. Or maybe it'll help, as Rebstang points out!

Well, fortunately for us, Turner probably doesn't have many Ole Miss connections left. He didn't exactly leave Oxford on the best of terms and even most of the faculty and administration were glad to see him leave.

The two biggest things that work against Orgeron if he were interested in a potential opening at SMU are some incidents in his past and some of his recruiting tactics.

I'm not even going to get into his past because the man has moved past that part of his life, has quit drinking, etc. However, these are things that would be brought up in the DMN and other outlets around the metroplex if SMU hired him, so they would be considered.

The biggest thing that would be of concern to our administration is his recruiting tactics. Ed Orgeron is one of the most aggressive recruiters college football has ever seen. He's never been named in an NCAA violation but a number of the NCAA rules regarding text messaging and social media were put in place because of him. Would our administration want to take on the additional compliance responsibilities of keeping up with a recruiting machine that loves to operate in the gray areas of NCAA rules?

FYI, if you want to get a real feel for how Ed Orgeron operates in recruiting, read "Meat Market" by Bruce Feldman. It follows Orgeron and the Ole Miss staff for almost a year leading up to what was, at the time, Ole Miss' best recruiting class ever (Hugh Freeze has already blown away that class in terms of rankings and production... and Freeze learned recruiting from Ed Orgeron).

ol miss people hated Turner because he expected them to actually be a university. Not really what most people at Ole Miss want.

I actually like the idea of this guy. We need someone with some fire who knows how to recruit. if he turns us around and the price we pay is a trashed office 5 yrs from now, so what?
