Nobody but you, June, and the overhead projector agre with this statement.
I don't believe for a moment that Klemm is not the best recruiter or is potentially the best of this lot. But all those guys mentioned have contributed at least as much or more as Klemm TO OUR PROGRAM. If our goal is to be Top 25 and compete with our traditional rivals, how many of those calibre kids did Klemm recruit for us before he left for Cali? The question is NOT how many he could get to sign with UCLA, it's how many did he recruit that panned out and performed at SMU. I'll spot you Ben G., and won't even argue over the kid that went to WA St. Name another who has contributed at a high (much less Top 25) level? Anyone? Crickets... I just don't understand the continued blind idolatry.
He wasn't here long enough to really take advantage. However, it is clear he is a true high performer, a top shelf recruiting talent that can change a program. And we had him and threw him away. Reinebold is a C class coach and not much better recruiter. There are a million like him. Klemm was special.

The sad thing is, he wasn't really special. He just did not give an F about the death penalty or any of the excuses that have plagued this program and university for 20 years. He basically had an attitude of, I'm the bomb, I went from the inner city to Super Bowl champion and worth a few million dollars, who wants to com play for me. And I don't care if it is Florida, USC, Texas....those places don't have me. He had an attitude and a swagger that this program had not seen since Ron Meyer. It was nothing special...it's sad that that is considered special.

I would strangle kittens to have Klemm back here. He is, undoubtedly, one of the best recruiters in America today.

We had June Jones and Adrian Klemm...and now have a senior 5-star QB...and an automatic BSC bid in a pretty crappy conference...how did we f*ck this up!?!

O.K. I can agree with almost all of that. Klemm definitely had the attitude. He definitely was willing to take on anybody. And no kid was beyond his reach. I think that's probably why so many people here liked him. It was certainly part of why I liked him. We desperately need some swagger, and 30 seconds of violence from our OL. If you look at who he was able to successfully recruit here, it's more vapor than substance. But promotion is a big part of the game too, and in this case, perception does often become reality (e.g. Klemm got a reputation as the best recruiter in the conference, but he only landed a couple of kids who've panned out here).
We did not "throw away" Klemm. So you can't hang the blame for that on the university or the program. I don't see how he left us any other option but to part ways.
