Once again, the gap between the haves and the have nots is increasing...and we are getting left behind.

Thoughts?

Reading at the article it looks like we are pretty close to Tech.

Tuition in TTU is less than what it is at SMU. We should be getting closer to Baylor and TCU in spending. Of course, we don't have the Big 12 revenue to help us.

Once again a stupid thread with a made up headline and no rational thought, analysis or understanding of NCAA/Conference revenue sources. Why don't you just shut the hell up until you have some understanding of the relevant factors and financial limitations on the SMU program. BTW how much did you contribute to the program? Do you buy season tickets? Get this through your dumb head-there is no [deleted] way SMU can spend what TCU and Baylor do on athletics

Just because you are mad about the news of June Jones staying in for a few more years doesn't mean you can cuss me out and act all entitled. Our program has no reason to be financially limited in any way. Grow a pair and spend money if we want to make some money.

And yes, I am a season ticket holder for Football and Basketball, and have plans to continue being one.

We need to all hope that we can dominate a lower division when the P5/G5 (whatever they are called)
schools demand and get a new division in NCAA athletics.

I would say that the message here is that we are the one non-BCS program willing to spend close to the amount of money as BCS schools, even though we don't have the same revenue potential.

Surprised to see TCU revenue number so much higher than baylor and close to tech. TCU doesnt receive a full big 12 revenue share for at least 2 more years. The tuition figures certainly skew the expense side of the equation.

Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram writes that TCU will “gradually slide into the conference’s revenue-sharing structure over the next four years. TCU will earn 50 percent of the normal $17 million payout in the 2012-13 academic year, 67 percent in 2013-14, 84 percent in 2014-15, and 100 percent in 2015-16.”
------------------------
I think the above may have been before renegotiated TV Contract but TCU is still receiving big bucks SMU can't match on an annual basis. Remember the revenue numbers at the Top of the thread were for 2012 when TCU received only a 50% share. The renegotiated TV Contract I believe was 20 Million per school per year and that doesn't include other sources of revenue. so 67% of 20 million is still 13.4 Million which SMU is in the hole. Add at a minimum to that 24,000 more seats sold per game x 6 games x conservative estimated $75 per ticket, parking, seat options, concessions and other game day revenue = $10.8 Million. So an educated guess is that SMU will be in the hole for about 25 Million a year and an amount substantially more in future years. SMU simply does not have anything close to the revenues available to TCU on an annual basis. Consideration of NCAA Basketball Tournament credits is another source of revenue that should be factored in. SMU is falling behind on the revenue side which results in falling behind on the spending side. A prospective boycott by a substantial number of SMU fans in 2014 makes these numbers even more problematic as TCU substantially increases its share during the same time period
