June is 1-10 in "preseason" road games so I think we all have a pretty good idea of how that game is going to go.

Said SMU president R. Gerald Turner: “Athletics is and always will be an integral part of the SMU experience'.

Really? For who? Neither current students nor alumni attend the games or, in all honesty, give a damn any longer. Time to look in the mirror RGT.

or instead of going to alabama to learn how to recruit, he could just walk down the hall to Larry Brown's office - who picked it up immediately even though he has been out of college coaching for a generation. Its not all that complicated. Its called work. Thats why June loves the islands - they don't work.

The choice of a coach has always been out of Pony fans hands. It looks to me like the question is not do you support Coach Jones? The question is do you support the decisions of the CofC? If they are paying the coach's salary then they should have the majority say on who the coach is. These are business people who look at bottom lines thus recruiting probably has been discussed. Nonetheless, I support the CofC and the SMU program.

Educate me. The "CoC" is mentioned in this thread and many other threads. What is the "CoC"? How many people are in the CoC? What are their names? I am assuming that the CoC are fellow SMU Alums who are major donors and contibutors to our Athletics Programs. How does one become a member of the CoC?

To paraphrase an oldie but a goodie, if you have to ask you cannot become a member.

In answer to your question. The CofC stands for the Circle of Champions.

When SMU was looking for a coach to replace Bennett, it was determined that a top rate coach would cost $2mil/yr. So the Athletic Department solicited 20 wealthy alums to commit to $100k per year to cover the $2mil.

They were deemed the Circle of Champions.

Afterwards, I asked Bob Sharp how many phone calls he had to make to get the 20 members. His response was, "20".
Just send 'da money.

Was CoC not orchestrated by Orsini?

You do indeed owe me booze, but I'm not sure there's enough of it to successfully drown my sorrows right now....

You realize I didn't want to be right, right?

I would like to cash in on the 4th if that's ok with you?
