Re: A&M's WR Mike Evans Declares for NFL
too slow he needs to convert to Jay Novecek TE
Re: A&M's WR Mike Evans Declares for NFLYou really think so?
He's not blindingly fast, but he's not as slow as he looks. This website says he has been clocked between 4.47 and 4.68, so they gave him a 4.58 (average, I guess). If he's anywhere near that fast, that's good enough with his size and hands and play-making ability. I looked up the times of some other big NFL receivers, and while there are some like Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson and Jordy Nelson and Demaryius Thomas who are huge and can fly, there are several who are plenty successful without being pure sprinters: San Diego's Malcom (didn't realize he spelled it that way) Floyd: 4.68 San Diego rookie Keenan Allen: 4.71 Anquan Boldin: 4.71 Hakeem Nicks: 4.63 Larry Fitzgerald: 4.63 Art Monk, Cris Carter and Jerry Rice never ran a 4.5, and they're all in the Hall of Fame. I'm not saying Evans is great … although he has looked pretty good in college. I'm just saying I don't think he's so slow that he can't be successful. A big guy, especially, can make it work without blistering speed. He could end up being a stud like Boldin or a bust like former massive USC/NFL receiver Mike Williams. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/ds ... &genpos=WR PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: A&M's WR Mike Evans Declares for NFL
he gets open, and gets a lot of yards bc he is bigger and can push off after the catch (Stiff arm)..while running. that ain't gonna happen in the nfl
Re: A&M's WR Mike Evans Declares for NFLPushing off worked pretty well for Michael Irvin and Cris Carter, and he's bigger than either of them. He might be faster, too. If teams put a linebacker on him, he can outrun them. If they put a safety on him, he should be able to outmuscle them.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying he's going to be anywhere near as good as Carter or Irvin — maybe he'll be great, and maybe he'll be a bust. All I'm saying is that I don't think he's so slow he can't be effective. Most mock drafts I have seen have said he's going to be taken in the second half of the first round or early second (and now the draft has been pushed back until May, so there's even MORE time to overanalyze!)
