Fiesta Bowl Payout

Postby SMU1990 » Thu Jan 02, 2014 12:24 am

Just curious. If UCF beats Baylor ... which it looks like they will. What will SMUs benefit be?

This is why it was good for SMU to lose to UCF.

If we had won, then we would both be in minor bowls with a total pay out of 2mil before expenses.

We would have received about $100k.

UCF already won the AAC and was going to the Fiesta regardless of whether we beat them or not. So no, it was not good for SMU to lose to UCF.

UCF would have had to be a top 16 team in bcs rankings to go. They certainly would not have if they lost to us.

I could be very wrong on this and really do not care since the BCS is over but I think that UCF would have still gone. The conference champions get a spot. There would have been another qualifier that was not a conference champion that would have been left out, such as Baylor, if there was a high enough qualifying non BCS team. Again, I could be very wrong on that.

You are completely wrong. The AAC was an Automatic Qualifier conference this year. The winner was going to a BCS bowl no matter what they were ranked.

Not sure about this either, but wouldn't SMU get the same amount (won't they get the same amount) whether UCF wins or loses? Didn't think the winner in these bowls gets more than the loser.

Carter is right, lax is absolutely wrong. It was good that UCF won for our garbage conference

I can't believe anybody thought the American did NOT have an automatic bid after all of the SMU to the BCS talk this year...

UCF was in no matter what.

Much different than Southern Miss beating Houston in 2011, which as hilarious as it was, cost SMU some serious $$$.

My mistake. Although, considering the weakness of the conference, you can certainly see where I was coming from.
