Sense that perhaps there will be a few players may not buy and may be wanting to transfer out of Texas. Perhaps the gravy train of TX retreads will continue...

June suspended Sanders for last 2 games of Junior season-another starting receiver too. I think there have been others I suspected by it wasn't made public

The University will buy out the leases for every player currently living off campus and put them in the athletic dorm.

Is this a permissible benefit?

Correct.

Compared to other big programs:
1) I don't think Mack's players got in trouble more (or less) often;
2) I don't think grades were a significant issue for Mack's players; and
3) On the field, his players generally didn't do things (behavior wise) that indicated a lack of control.

I think the most interesting part of the story involves living arrangements. Given how many players today have children (with wives and/or GF's), I wonder if he can really force players to live in dorms. Furthermore, many people think athlete-only dorms leads to more (not less) "issues" for players.

Texas absolutely had a nun disciplined program. Everyone called UT the cowboys of college football. Just a country club atmosphere. Mack got soft. It happens.

As coaches or teachers know, it's much easier to start as a hard [deleted] and back off as you gain trust rather than go the other way. I'm not saying this is a bluff, but I'm also saying I don't expect position coaches to "run until it hurts" either.

Should be interesting to see how Texas does next year.

Yes. Has been for decades. As far as the "football dorm" concept is concerned, if my memory serves me correctly the NCAA griped about our athletic dorm back in the 80s. Either they or the football hating clique that took over after the DP abolished the concept. Considered it a bad influence on the athletes. After that our players lived amongst the rest of their classmates.

We did not have an athletic dorm when I was there, 68-72. Our dining hall was the old athletic dorm.

Not questioning the athletic dorm part. Questioning the University buying out players' leases.
