UH Has an Unusually Large Number of Division 1A Transfers

Postby Stallion » Thu Jan 23, 2014 11:43 am

this is taken from a UH site reviewing the new UH roster-supposedly a lot of these guys are immediately eligible-looks like about 9-10 BCS level recruits-whiich is unusually high even for UH

Trevon Randle LSU-LB Lee Hightower Boise-DB Jeremy Johnson West Virginia-DB Grayson Hughes Kansas State-WR Hayden Daniels Illinois-WR Tyler White Utah-DB
Dylan seibert Oklahoma-P Mike Mustafa Oklahoma State-DT Adrian Bennett TSU-LB
Jamal Baker TSU-DL Cameron Oliver La monroe-WR Josh Pegram Texas Tech-TE
plus DL Melvin Holland from Navarro and OL Carter Wall from Navarro (via TCU)...hoping these boys can make a big impact next year.....the only name missing from ones i saw earlier is Jaylyn McCain, a RB from San Jose St.....
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

If we're going to compete for AAC titles and beat P5 teams OOC, we're going to need to get transfers from bigger programs. Texas and especially the DFW area produce tons of talent, and invariably some of those guys get homesick, recruited over, or have other issues at P5 programs which cause them to want to transfer. We can offer a D1 program close to home, great academics, and a chance to play- and for these guys, this is their last chance to audition for NFL scouts.

I'm surprised Jones doesn't focus on this more, to at least help cover up his hs recruiting deficiencies.

He probably tells the coaches about his offer. Doesn't work as well as it does with the HS coaches

With the line drawn between the haves and have nots, grabbing transfers is incredibly important from this point moving forward.

I hate to feed the fire, but this is the case where "wasting your time" on big name recruits that will be going elsewhere can really pay off. If they are looking to transfer, they are going to contact schools that were in touch with them coming out of high school. That is a big reason we got Gilbert - the relationship between June and his dad and that we tried to recruit him in the beginning.

Ah, but you see it was the relationship between June and GG's DAD, not GG himself and someone on the staff. You're right, without his dad, we never would have gotten him because no one here had a relationship with him

It would negatively impact his golf game and trips to Hawaii.

SMU football should promote itself as a place for transfers seeking to enhance their education, especially those guys who have already graduated but with a year or two left of eligibility and can play NOW. Those guys have tired of sitting on the bench or little playing time in front of huge crowds and welcome the playing opportunity in front of 20,000 at Ford and in a great area to live.
