Recruiting Article on Sumlin and Strong

I read this article in class today regarding the effort put in by Sumlin and Strong to try and secure a top OLB commit for their 2014 classes. The article talks about how this final stretch before signing day is crucial for solidifying a class; it made me sick thinking where my school's head coach has been these last few weeks. SMU should be taking notes on how the two powerhouses in the state of Texas do things with recruiting and then try our best mirror that model as closely as possible. I hope the next head coach understands this.

Texas A&M will become the state's top program. Bye bye Bevo

It already is. A&M left UT behind when it jumped to the SEC and hasn't looked back.

It isn't just the presence on the high school campus for this years class, it is for that fr, soph and junior and even the little brother down in middle school. Word gets around when a coach is on campus and how friendly and nice he is while taking pictures with the custodians, teachers and principals and students. Mac was the best. If a head coach isn't around he is considered an outsider. All of these people along with the coaches, parents and grandma have the recruit and future recruits ear. It may mean the difference or at least get a foot in the door.
