game obervations

our defense was amazing... offense or special teams did not help them out... our qb's are just as good as highschool qb's. we have no red-zone offense... running from the spread inside the 15 never works... we need to throw the ball to bobby chase... we need to throw the ball to bobby chase.. and oh yeh... we need to throw it to chase.. that was some of the worst decisions by qb's I have ever seen. Romo is an elusive scrambler, cant pass. Eckert supposedly has a good arm, but throws it wherever he wants...( rarely to an SMU receiver).. and besides the fumble, puntreturn/ kickreturns looked good... This was a must win game, we will lose to tcu, and aTm, I dont know how many games we will win, but.... i just want to say Rick Neuheisel... some coaches can just turn programs around.. I dont know if Phil is the right one? (We need to think like Utep here and forget the past mistakes of the coaches... we NEED a Mike Price type of coach)

Bobby Chase looked good on the last drive, but he also missed a couple early on that were catchable. As for the QBs, I'm not ready to put them out to pasture yet. I've had bad days at the office before, and Eckert certainly had one last night. Romo was better, but only a little. Eckert just didn't have it. But that DOES NOT mean he can't play. We saw last year that he has talent. He has a very good arm, and he understands the offense -- he'll be OK. I don't know what happened yesterday. Maybe it was opening-day nerves. He either overthrew or short-armed a bunch (how many bounced in front of receivers or got tipped at the line?) OK, you got it out of your system, Tony. Come back next week and show us the talent we know you have.

I keep going back to the fact that we did a lot of things wrong (bad passing, fumbles, etc.) and still nearly won. I'm dissatisfied with the loss, but not as discouraged as some.
