Please take a moment to read the article "Time to go Independant" on the home page and chime in with your opinions.

Sounds risky to me.

Ridiculous...
The only thing not ridiculous about the editorial was the backhanded acknowledgment about the impact eliminating football would have on "influential alumni support." No **** Sherlock. Ah...I would have thought I've sat through too many faculty senate meetings to get upset with articles like this, but I guess I was wrong.

Not so fast, my friends!

Fear not, there is absolutely NO danger of us going independent. Jim Copeland and President Turner are way too smart to let go of the revenue generated by being in a conference, even the WAC. We'd all like to be in the SEC or the Big 10, but even being in the WAC generates some revenue, from limited TV exposure and from bowl participation.

I'd rather go to Indianapolis than going independent.

That was an article written by faculty members here at SMU. Not the most knowledgable faculty members apparently. Without the WAC, we would have no TV exposure whatsoever. I think the WAC is a great, diverse, competitive conference. People like to bash the WAC, but the reason there is always a new conference champ is a tribute to its diversity. True, it can be tough to compete for talent with some of the teams with much lower admission standards...but hey, Rice seems to do pretty well Image
