Time passes so quickly when you are an old fart. I did not realize Klemm's time coaching although some of that was just as an unpaid observer type wasn't it?

So again to my point, even if Klemm were to be hired, his role would be very different from head recruiter. He would still have to hire agressive recruiters. Kind of the opposite of what has been going on.

Gotcha. I see your point. Whoever is hired needs aggressive recruiters and and needs to be proactive at least in establishing relationships local high school coaches.

I think at SMU specifically, you have to hire someone with a big name and a big rep (who is going to require a big investment), because that is the only way to keep the tide in favor of the athletic program.

It is an SMU-specific problem. That is the reason I would be wary of hiring a quality assistant to be HC.

Wrong, as Stallion has stated that the academic issues are now a non issue. Please stop the JJ propaganda.

Stallion is absolutely correct. And if you think the academic side of the University wouldn't change it back to the old ways in a heartbeat, you are smoking crack. On top of that, even Larry Brown had to work some magic to get Frazier into the school. There is a lot of work the coaches still have to do, even to get the administration to follow by the rules that they have currently committed to.

What I said is not a JJ propaganda statement. You twist things around worse than Putin. What I AM absolutely suggesting is that whenever we do hire another coach, it needs to be someone with enough on the resume to keep the changes in place. Bennett got bullied around by the administration; he didn't have enough pull in the sportsworld, even though he was an ex coach at A&M and had a great reputation coming out of K State. You have to bring in someone with a significant pedigree in order to keep the academics at bay.

Klemm would not like it because of JJ lovers? there are only like 2 left so i don't think that is an issue.

If we hired Klemm as our head coach he would be smart enough to hire a few assistants that know DFW very well and could get us back into some of those schools that have been ignored for so long. He'd have us winning the conference in 3 years.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Klemm would get abused by the administration.

Guys, we still aren't too far removed from having horrible restrictions on the athletics program. We need to bring in a big name head coach that the school and alumni will heavily invest in, so that there will continue to be momentum to build a program that has a chance for success.

Once we have consistently won and there is an established athletic tradition of success at the school, we can start targeting top assistant coaches. But until we get to that point, we need big names.

My biggest fear is that we bring in an assistant coach, and all of a sudden recruiting budgets get cut and whatnot. If we brought Larry Brown out of retirement, maybe Jimmy is next :).

We got Leslie Smith in as well and the administration admitted Frazier in the summer even before the NCAA cleared him. It was the NCAA the we had to fight with not RGT. If a change were to occur and we could get Chad Morris or Tom Herman I would not be opposed to it. I don't believe the scare tactics saying they couldn't succeed. What we don't need is a rethread head coach.

My understanding with Frazier is that there was another problem within the university that had nothing to do with RGT or the NCAA.

Just saying, be aware of the risk of things changing back if you move to an assistant coach.

No, he was admitted to SMU without any fighting within the university but the NCAA did not clear him until about 2 weeks before the season.

Here is the DMN article showing that he was admitted in the summer and even went to summer school.

there is absolutely no risk of going backward on this issue. Trust me. We need recruiting energy - and if that is a 73 year old (Brown) or a 35 year old I don't care. We have seen what sitting on the beach does - even if you are a good X and O coach. It gets you average.
