Strength/conditioning story

Postby Corso » Mon Mar 28, 2005 11:16 am

Just read the new story (on the homepage) about the team's offseason workouts. Sounds like Coach Faucette has really lit a fire under them, even more than in years past.

Reynaldo Pellerin "has guns"? There's something I didn't know if I'd ever see. He always had the height and decent speed .... with better strength, maybe he can become a really dangerous WR.

And congratulations to Brandon Bonds -- 25 pounds! Keep working at it through the summer, stay true to the eating program (whatever it is) that they have you on, and kick some major tail in the fall!

Great story, webguys -- as always.

Just looked back at last year's story. I didn't realize we'd graduated that many in the 400 Club (Derron Brown, Clay Glockzin, Foy Munlin, Derek Swofford and Melvin Williams).

We've got a bunch of BIG young guys now, so the membership in that club will continue to grow.

Kudos to The Diesel and his staff for their hard work with these guys.

And benching 400-plus is impressive enough. For Massey to still put up that weight after dropping a good chunk of weight is amazing.

wow... i knew coach faucette would take these guys to the next level... I played on the 2000 and kept up w/ the guy through the rest of my time at smu... and in cavan's last year we only had one guy who could bench 400 and that was shane o'neil, his brother stephen could also... but you have to realize that both their parents were body builders, so they had the "genes" in the first place... since then i have not heard of a list like we have now of 400 lb benching
props to faucette and the guys to getting bigger and stronger...

Great article and an amazing job by coach faucette. I remember few years back with TCU were threatening to go undefeated for the season, ESPN did an article on how TCU had more players who could bench 400 than any other D-1 school and the advantage that that extra strength gave them.

Sounds like Coach Faucette has us going down that same path now!

True, TCU has some monsters, but it also is a school that "projects" maximum lifts by a mathematical formula based on the number of reps at a lower weight. But that's not to take away from the work some of the froggies have put in. They do have some big guys.

"In one year, Tommy has grown to 270 pounds (from about 245 when he arrived last year) and has power-cleaned 70 pounds"

Is this right? We have a D-1 lineman who can only power-clean 70 lbs? or was this a typo?

That has to be a typo.

You have to love that Brandon Bonds is at 305. BIG MEN and now a little quicker.

That was a typo. He has power-cleaned 370lbs. I've notified the author of the article (one of the webmasters) who has told me he will get that typo fixed.

I'll say. Wasn't T. Poynter pretty skinny when he got her last year? That's a strong young man, and based on how big Ben is getting, it looks like they've got the genetics to be stout.

Well done, Diesel!
