as long as we're part of the cartel or the cartel (bcs-bs) is dissolved & then a playoff system is formed, who cares?! Let's win it!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Magnolialeague.com?
As a TCU fan, I'd rather kill myself than be part of that.
Let's hope this NEVER becomes our reality. With that group, we would rarely see mre than 10,000 at Ford or the usual 1500 at Moody.
Wasn't long ago there was talk of the BCS spinning off into formation of "Super Conferences" for football only, but it was the ultimate act of greed, leaving tradition and long standing rivalries in the lurch. The idea was that many of the private schools like Wake, Duke, Vandy, Baylor, etc... would be cast off leaving only the Goliaths of collegfe football to share in the "big money". The question/problem idebated at the time was...how do you determine who gets to play and who doesn't? More than likely, participation would be predicated on football only budgets...but would that be based on ticket sales/revenue? Or just a school's willingness to spend? Do schools like BYU who can draw 60k get in? Does Miami get left out because they can't seem to draw those numbers unless they are playing another top program? We may not be happy with the current system, but it is what it is and let's just hope SMU makes a commitment to compete at the level we're at. A berth in the CUSA Championship Game and/or annual bowl invite coupled with an annual trip to either the NCAA or NIT bball tourneys would keep me plenty interested and I'd like to think we could attract 20k to Ford and 5k to Moody pretty regularly, with occasional packed houses for the more meaningful games. I just don't see those cross-over games with Bill & Mary or Furman ever attracting more than flies. It's tough enough when ECU or Tulane comes to visit.
cp - i think it has already happend duuuuuh ![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

Glad you enjoy itGlad you enjoy the site...there will be plenty more information to come. I plan to rely on great fans like y'all to help me build the site.
Don't panic...this is not reality. However, I would like to use this site to promote loyal fan bases and the virtues of the schools listed. Best, The Magnolia League Succissa Virescit
Hoops would be great, but this is designed solely for football amongst natural rivals.
The idea is to do this once every four years. Let is be a cage match between the smaller academics. One year of a home playoff round some of you would be sold. I watched JMU win Div1AA last year, and you couldn't convince them that what they won wasn't meaningful. The Magnolia League Succissa Virescit
Some have asked me to replace TCU with the Air Force Academy in the Magnolia League because of the academic reputation of TCU.
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/colleg ... _brief.php I have declined because I am a believer in improvement by association, which a Magnolia League would benefit TCU, and for promoting local competition. Fans are more enthusiastic about playing teams that are geographically and ideology close. In the case of a Magnolia League, geographic accessibily will do more to increase fan loyalty and promote more travel. How do think a division of Baylor, Rice, SMU, and TCU would be received? Like many of you, I have been concerned that the BCS cabal will try to push schools like SMU, TCU and Baylor out of division I-A football. I think there is an arrogant attitude at schools like Texas that they have a right to all the riches of the BCS and schools like SMU should never be allowed to recruit well enough to play for something like that. However, there is one thing keeping the BCS bunch from pulling such a stunt: they need us. They need the SMUs and Baylors of division I-A to pad their season records. Right now a win vs. SMU counts toward a bowl berth. Push us out, and it becomes all that much more difficult to get there. Personally, I'd like to see the non-BCS schools band together to force a some changes at the NCAA. A playoff might be the ultimate outcome. But it needs to be more than that. I think SMU has had a problem in the past decade because our conferences have changed makeup or we've changed conferences. I'd like to see the non-BCS schools force a re-alignment of the NCAA conferences. In other words, take away the ability of schools to move from conference to conference. Make the NCAA responsible for assigning schools to conferences. The NCAA mandates everything else, why not this? I have mapped out a plan that would create 9 I-A conferences with 11-14 schools each. They would be geographically friendly, fairly balance in talent, and would provide for a championship game for each conference. Coming up with a playoff system utilizing the bowl games would be fairly simple after that. If the BCS school defeated the plan, the non-BCS school need to withdraw from the NCAA and form a new organization. My guess is the potential loss of a good portion of the NCAA members would prompt the BCS cabal to agree to the reform. The end result would be good for all the schools.

You'd have to be on crack or suffering serious psycholgical problems to believe that the BCS private schools would join your little dream. Why waste our time with this crap. I suggest reading up on the subject so that you actually might know what you are talking about before wasting our time.
