Rose Bowl

Postby LA_Mustang » Tue Dec 06, 2005 3:13 pm

This game has everything- Two great schools rich in football tradition, two great states with huge media markets to hype the game to no end, and most importantly, probably the two most talented college football teams ever playing in the granddaddy of all bowl games. The Rose Bowl and college football fans hit the jackpot with this one.

Also, I went to the Rose Bowl website. It is pretty cool to be one of only two Texas schools to ever play in the Rose Bowl.

1936 - Stanford 7 SMU 0
Stanford (7-1) defeats Southern Methodist (12-0) by a 7-0 score as the "Vow Boys" make good on two vows: never lose another Rose Bowl Game and never lose during the regular season to USC. Bill Paulman scores the game's only touchdown on a short dash. Keith Topping's defensive end play helps cause the demise of Matty Bell's previously effective Mustangs, who never solve Bobby Grayson, Bones Hamilton & Company.

I think it's an understatement to say that I'm looking forward to this game.

I can see why.

Never have been a UT fan, except my daughter is now in graduate school there. Oh the shame! Good luck against USC. Bring home the trophy.

/\ Why is that shameful? UT has some of the top graduate programs in the nation. Anyway...

Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.

I went to the Rose Bowl 4 years ago for the national championship game (Miami vs Nebraska) - it's a hell of an experience. Had to park on a golf course though.

It will be great hype, but it will be like last year's outcome. USC will win by two scores. Pete Carroll will focus on Young like he did Peterson in last year's game. Game over. 3-Peat for 'SC

/\ Apparently you haven't watched the two teams this year. Young is not Texas' only threat. And besides, USC's defense hasn't been able to "focus on" anyone so far this season.

No, I have watched both teams. No disrespect to UT. Young is awesome, and I think if SC focuses on him, they will get the job done. Just like USC focused on Drew Olson for UCLA. One of the better QB's and look what happened to the Bruins. 6 points in 56 minutes.

Um, no one has been able to shut Young down this season. Texas played 5 teams (Ohio State, Oklahoma, Colorado - twice, Texas Tech and Kansas) with a better total defensive rating than USC's and the average margin of victory over those teams was 34 points. Texas has the nation's top scoring offense and USC has the 40th best defense. Tell me exactly what USC is going to be able to differently than the teams they've already beaten (handily) were able to do.

The real difference in this game is Texas' defense versus USC's offense. Texas will be able to score on USC, but will USC be able to match Texas score for score? Only time will tell.

Aggies did not exactly shut Young down, but they sure made him look average for at least that game. Of course that really is a reflection on the OL and if USC can man handle the UT OL like the Aggies did...look out.

Vince Young turnovers will cost them the game. That, or he'll forget to take his ipod out and just groove, baby.

UT will win the Rose

Postby Sam I Am » Wed Dec 07, 2005 12:35 am

Mack Brown has gotten all the monkies off his back at long last. UT is the real deal. USC is very good and I am worried about anybody keeping up with Bush's speed. Young can match Leinert['s passing. Texas has the better defense. As usual, field postion and turnovers will decide the game. No one can predict those things. USC will be the favorite, but Texas will win. We shouldn't have to wait 30 days for the championships game (another thing wrong with the BCS system).

that the good games are in the beginning of january is certainly not a BCS bad thing. the 30 days is for UT to try and get prepared to play USC...altho this may seem like it's gonna be a nail biter, the rose bowl is the same story with a big 12 team thinking they're number 1, they'll yet get slapped again. vince is incredible, reggie is indescribable...USC 45 Texas 24
