Interesting Perspective: Game Day attire

I forgot about this when it took place awhile back, but found it amusing. I'm interested in what people on this board view as appropriate gameday attire at Ford. Everyone knows when Okie State came to town, their section was rife with a-hunting we will go orange. The longhorns now have everything burning orange, so it seems.

The kicker from my perspective is this: over a recent trip to Louisiana, my wife returned with much LSU tiger stuff which she thought we be ideal to wear to games she attended, $20-$30 shirts fans of most schools wear, mostly t-shirts or pullovers, some purple some gold.. By comparison, I also sent her and my stepdaughter on a vacation to Southern California, and my wife returned with what she called the perfect thing to wear to an SMU game: a $90 red Lacoste shirt she picked up in Beverly Hills.

Of course, I don't pay as much attention to fashion as the ladies in the family, but they're right. Come September, I'm much much more likely to wear the red shirt with the alligator on it than a Go Ponies shirt or whatever, because it better fits the mood, or so it would seem. Maybe we're just adding to the stereotype.

Anyone else's thoughts on gameday fashion?

At SMU it doesn't matter what you wear. Some people dress up (soroity girls), some peple dress casual (fraternity guys), some dress in SMU colors, some dress in other school colors.

You know what, I don't care what somebody wears to a game. I just care that they are there and supporting the 'Stangs.

I am considering a dress code in my seating area. I will take Hawaiian shirts under advisement but do not get too comfortable with that thought.

The stands need to be filled with SMU gear: hats, jerseys, t-shirts .... it's a football game, not a fashion show, and the best-looking fans will still look good, even in a lineman's jersey. Leave the fancy duds at home, and break out mass quantities of SMU gear!

Totally untrue. All the IFC fraternities have some kind of dress code for their members on gamedays, with the overwhelming majority of fraternity men wearing pants, a button-down shirt and a tie (generally the only thing SMU colored).

Some folks think this is counterproductive to SMU spirit - you would think the "frat guys" would be the ones to paint their chests and dress crazily but its just not the case.

There were some like that, I guess, but I always see a lot of fraternity jerseys and t-shirts on the Boulevard. I agree, however, that EVERYONE should be in something with SMU letters and colors on it.

Unfortunately, SMU fans have never been of the mindset "I've got to have my red shirt for the game on Saturday." So we look pretty dishelved, as a group, at our home games. The one game last season somebody had the bright idea of putting the student body in RED t-shirts, they had the letters TCU across the front, albeit "sucks" below... which was a real catchy (and original, I might add) phrase. TCU loaded up with more students in PURPLE shirts and theirs had the name of THEIR school and their mascot. Pretty clever. SMU has established no protocol for projecting any sense of game day school spirit... as a group/fan base. Therefore, collectively, we look we todd did.
