5 head coaches who took over teams that were pretty awful upon their arrival. Which one does not fit in this peer group?
Art Briles:
Bowl apperances in 3 of 4 seasons. 25-23 in 3 seasons.
Paul Johnson:
Bowl apperances in 4 of 5 seasons. 28-21 record in 5 seasons.
Steve Kragthorpe:
Bowl apperances in 3 of 4 seasons. 28-22 record in 4 seasons. Before Kragthorpe Tulsa has had not had a winning season since 1991, over 10 years. His record in his first 3 seasons resulted in more wins than the previous 7 for Tulsa and their conference chamionship last season was the schools first since 1985.
Todd Graham:
Bowl apperance in first season at Rice finishing 7-5 during regular season. Including losses against UT, FSU, and UCLA (three opponents better than anyone we played this season whether these are down years for them or not). This is despite coming off a 1-10 season last year. Rice had not been to a bowl since 1961 until this season.
Phil Bennett:
0 bowl apperances in 5 seasons. 17-41 record in 5 seasons at SMU. Yet to record a winning season.

I'd say UH is the school that doesn't fit in this peer group. It's basically an open admission commuter school, that being said 3 of my relatives are Cougar High alums and they're doing allright in life.
Anyway, Rice, Navy, & Tulsa are comparable to SMU in academics, admission standards, alumni, campus culture, facilities etc...

My post was with the intent to compare the coaches and the jobs they did in taking over terrible programs.
UH is not nearly as similar as us or the other schools but they are our direct competition therefore I felt it was relevant. While you can point to them having an easier road for a quick turnaround because of easier admitance policies you can also point out that their stadium is a joke compared to ours.
There are numerous examples to show how all of these situations are similar and dissimilar but the point is it does noit HAVE to take forever to build a program back to being a success. It in fact can happen rather quickly as shown by these examples, whom are our direct competition in conference or are a comparable program we have played in Bennetts tenure.

My God!! It is not about the coach! It is the institution, and if you do not understand, please do not comment!! There is no comparison with the coaches or institutions. For example, take a look at how many South Lake Carroll players play for Rice? What does that tell you? Todd Dodge will not even send his own HS players to SMU, and some of you think he is coming? HA HA HA!!

True, I assumed what you were saying was understood. I apologize for my misinterpretation. I agree with you 100%.

ummmm
1. its Southlake not South Lake... ugh that really bothers me...
2. We get about 2-3 kids each year from SOUTHLAKE... normally in the form of walk-ons... They try to play for a year and then leave ala John Blackburn (Southlake LB '03) who is nolw a student at A&M, Chase Hargis (Southlake ALL STATE DB '03) now at texas state as a student... i can go on if you would like me to... and i suggest you don't try "i've forgot more southlake football then you know..." something along those lines

Your post is incoherent and makes no sense. I love to hear opinions differing opinions but I am not sure of the point you are even trying to make.

Todd Graham does not fit the peer group. All the others have been at their respective program 4/5 seasons.

Bigdaddy,
I don't understand what you are saying...will u make me understand what ur post means. The institution doesn't coach or run the football program, the COACH does...
Make us understand what you are saying because you aren't making anysense in my opinion.

also....
only three players for Rice are from SOUTHLAKE Carroll
http://riceowls.cstv.com/sports/m-footb ... l-mtt.html
SMU has 2
http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/m-fo ... l-mtt.html
so your point on how Rice gets a ton of the SOUTHLAKE players, you're wrong...
I'm getting really sick of this rambling, if you want to make a statement like that please back it up with some research on the facts... and im sure Stallion the recruiting guru could tell you which of them are on scholarship.... I would bet that all 3 of the SOUTHLAKE players for rice are not on scholarship.

Hmmm, Mitch Enright-- only 4-yr varsity player @ SLC, now at SMU.
What's your point?

I know we offered one of their WRs who played as a Freshman-named Fentriss-but he turned us down to go to Rice.
