SMU vs. Missouri -- 2009 & 2010

Postby Cheesesteak » Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:39 pm

Maybe this is old news, but I just noticed that we play at Missouri in 2009 and the Tigers visit SMU in 2010.

Scroll down to Missouri Football Future Schedules...

Yeah, PonyFans has had that on the future schedules page for awhile now. I'm looking forward to that series.

I look forward to playing any BCS team at home for a chance to win and have large crowds, but why would we want to play Missouri ? I mean will they really bring even 5,000 to Ford ? I think when we play a BCS team at home we need to know that they will be a great draw. We should schedule BCS teams at Ford from Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Texas. If we need to schedule a BCS team from outside our area, it should be a strong national name that is sure to draw well or forget it. Last year I don't think we could have had 25,000 for Missouri so why not just play North Texas every year ? ...Air Force and Navy are good non BCS draws and Orsini should check out how well Grambling State football attendence is when they play Division 1 teams. A Grambling v SMU game at Ford and at Sheveport,La.(Independence Bowl) would be great and would surely sell out in both stadiums.

Oh, for crying out loud, westex, can we stop that kind of talk. We got enough knuckleheads -- mainly the keeper of the star -- who compain that we aren't playing BCS teams enough and that our schedule is a joke. And when we do, we have other people who come on here and complain about the BCS teams that we are playing. Make up your minds. Personally, I like playing teams like this. It appears that it's a good contract, home-and-home not 2-for-1 or anything like that.

Also, we'll miss Daniel. He's a junior this year. Unless he mixes in a redshirt, he'll be done after after the 2008 season.

Party on.

Missouri is a good non-conference game as is any mid-level BCS state school with a decent fan base in the area - schools like Kansas, Kansas St., Colorado, Missouri, Mississippi, Mississippi St., and Iowa St. While they won't fill the stadium like Tech or Oklahoma St., they will bring far more fans than our conference-mates and they provide us better competition in games that we have some chance of winning. In our current situation I favor playing one true test/attendance game (ie, Tech or A&M - UT or OU would be great, but they'll never play us in Dallas); one rivalry game (TCU); one local game (NTSU); and then one midlevel or low level BCS game - ideally Baylor because of the history, but in the alternative, the list set forth above.

Missouri's a game you should look forward to. It's a fun BCS team...I mean this isn't a real reason but it might seem a little dreary playing Tech and TCU every year. Not that we shouldn't, but the gold and black and a trip to Columbia...nice and fresh.

Baylor could be the local game as well. So could TCU. We don't need to play UNT every year. Quite frankly, we have everything to lose in that series and nothing to gain.

Mizzou has a pretty decent-sized local fan base - I bet they bring quite a few.

I'm definitely looking forward to these games. My cousin went to Mizzou. And he has always taken pot shots at SMU - why do you root for those guys?

Needless to say, bragging rights are on the line.

He even offended me further by asking me - a couple of weeks ago, when we were discussing the game - who I would be rooting for. I asked if he was serious. He said he was... He really must not know me well at all.

Uh, yeah, I root for Mizzou when they play Texas, and when I am hanging out with my cousin, but other than that? Seriously, what kind of question was that?

I still can't get over it. Who would I be rooting for?!!??!? Seriously!

Mizzou is also an old traditional opponent. Glad to see the series renewed.

I like getting home and hoime series with BCS schools that will give them. I like Missou just as I liked the Kansas series back in 2000-2001, because they are BCS schools we should be able to compete with. I just want to fill out the remainder of the non-conference schedule with home and home series with TCU, Baylor, TTech and UNT - keep it local for fan interest.
