If that's true that's not good at all. Willis is way better, but he's the only QB with solid backup experience. Also makes PB look like he can't control his players.

If true SMU is down to Willis and a true freshman at QB-assuming Zach Rhodes has been permanently moved. You know I wonder if SMU might take a second look at that walkon QB Eric Herbel from McKinney North that is scheduled to enroll at TCU next year. That kid impressed the hell out of me-can't believe no one didn't offer him. I stole this from Fiesty Frog's Recruiting Blog on the TCU board-but he's right go to Rivals Videos but look for his teammate WR David Douglas in the 2008 database-the highlites on this kid are impressive even though technically Herbel isn't in the Rivals database. SMU will have to address this issue before the start of the season-its too big a gamble:
"Eric Herbel is a kid that I have liked for a long time and is one of those head shakers. A completion percentage of 69.9% with over 2,500 yards, 31 touchdowns and only 6 interception in 246 attempts has to boggle the mind on how he ended up as a walk-on, but thankfully he has chosen TCU. A teammate of TCU recruit Jeff Olson at North, the two will room together and expect him to provide stiff competion for playing time soon after his arrival at TCU. Eric chose TCU as a preferred walk-on over similar offer from Oklahoma State."

Maybe PB tries to control the players too much...........it sure seems that we have had a large number of players quit the team during PB's tenure on the Hilltop.......

With no disrespect intended at all, does Slater actually feel like he is a viable commodity to go to Boise, Hawaii or Colorado, sit out a year and have one year left? If I am a coach, I want a QB who can give me more than just one year unless he is a franchise type guy and I do not think that is what we are dealing with. If so, I would have thought he would have risen to the top here.

Very good point. Sounds like someone has an inflated view of how good they really are... wonder where that came from..... hmmm.

He can ride pine at SMU and maybe start if something happens to Willis and get a degree from a great university which will give him the tools for life after football. Or he can drop down to 1-AA (I mean Tournament Division) and play for a year without sitting. Or he can transfer to Boise, Hawaii, or Colorado and probably ride pine and get a degree from a lesser university.

Well to his credit-didn't Slater indicate that he was considering transferring. He was open with the coaching staff several months ago so they have had at least some time to make alternative arrangements. However, he does appear to be somewhat of a mercenary
