Former QB Eric Johnson to UNTAnybody see the note in today's DMN that Eric Johnson is joining the UNT football team after a semester at Tx State?

Interesting choice. Riley will likely be a four year starter at UNT, or they have some other decent talent as well. Not great, but decent. I guess TX State wasn't working out. It will be interesting to see how Rhett Bomar does at Sam this fall.
Eric JohnsonEric Johnson wanted to join up with his brother, center J.J. Johnson,
6-2, 278lbs, from Coach Dodge's first recruiting class of 2007.
Re: Eric Johnson
I don't care why he's in Denton. If he shows up w/ SMUs playbook, he's an insufferable git, and Bennett & Co. ought to have a problem. The game of the 2nd week is shaping up to be a real grudge match. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Re: Eric Johnson
Everytime someone transfers you flip out about our playbook. People transfer from schools all the time. Not a big deal especially considering Johnson wasn't even here for spring ball. Hell, Dodge knows what we do from studying film. I'll give him a few just in case he needs some help: - Offense centered around 3 yard passes. - Expect underutilization of the TE - Expect to see no fullback under any circumstance whatsoever. - Defend all goal line situations with a nickle package as we will certainly be passing.
The Mustangs aren't going with a traditional "Playbook" This year. Justin's just going to draw the plays up in the dirt on the sideline (yes, they installed a sandbox).

At least give the man a set of markers and a dry erase board.
Re: Eric Johnson
I take umbrage your accusation that I "flip out". I don't get animated about much anything, and this is the 2nd, may be 3rd post that I've commented on a xfer and their playbook knowledge (counting threads that got deleted...which I do get animated about b/c I lose posts); hardly cause for hyperbole. But I can't disagree whatsoever about Dodge being able to watch our film, much less your analysis of it. True is true, even if you are ripping on me about it. But I'm neither Patton nor Phire, so "flip out" isn't something that really fits. Give me a little room to work, here. It is a grudge match, though. And I so, so want it to be. ![]() "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Playbooks--do not need themYou have acess to South Lake Carroll's playbook and SLC offense-
I am sure Coach Bennett will question Mitch Enright and Pete Fleps about Coach Dodge's South Lake Carroll offense and defense. Good coaches do not need the opponets playbook at all. Coaches can see all they need to know by watching game films.
At halftime this fall, Rusty Burns will get on the sticks to implement all adjustments via the Xbox NCAA 08 game that was put on pause when the team had to take the field. Games in which the defense will take the field in the second half will allow Justin and Emmanuel a quick series
Regarding playbooks and Johnson, players no longer take the playbooks from the facility after camp. They're historically returned to coaches, and in-season playbooks are that week's gameplan stapled together. I was going through some old boxes a few months ago and found a few of Larry Kueck's gameplans. They'll be on ebay by the end of the week.
Let me know if I'm hopelessly obsessed, but since we do play them in week 2 this seems to be at least somewhat relevant.
From DMN: "DENTON – Roy Loren, a senior who was projected to start at strong safety, is no longer with UNT, coach Todd Dodge said The transfer from Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College made 33 tackles in eight games last season." "Dodge said redshirt freshman kicker Steven Woodward is also no longer with the team, leaving freshmen Clayton Teasdale, Trent Deans and Thomas Moreland to compete for the job."
