What The Hell Did We Waste a Redshirt Year on Bailey at RB?I couldn't believe it. Now we got a freshman 4th string running back playing behind a First Stringer and Second Stringer who are only Juniors. On the other hand we've got big big problems at Safety-Bailey's natural position. Either play him at S or redshirt him at RB if you really think he's a superstar RB. DON'T WASTE A YEAR OF DEVELOPMENT AT RB. This is one of the strangest redshirt decisions I've ever witnessed as an SMU fan. He better play now or suddendly suffer a mysterious illness all of a sudden so he doesn't lose this year.
If I'm wrong I'm wrong. But Bailey is listed as No. 2 on the roster not Butler-the announcer called Bailey's name twice, my eyes are getting bad but it looked like Bailey not Butler and he looked 6-2 not 5-10. Butler is No. 33 unless he changed numbers. Any others see what I did or thought I did?
Bailey played saftey at the end of the game.
Butler played RB at the end of the game. It was a mistake by the announcer, both players are number 2 in the guide I got at the stadium. FYI, redshirt isn't offically wasted until after like the third game of the season. So you can play some people in the first couple of games and not necessarily waste a redshirt.

If the player is injured and out for the season prior to playing 20% of the schedule, he can apply for a medical hardship. Hardship and redshirt are NOT the same thing, the often used term "medical redshirt" is a misnomer, it's not the same thing. Not all appeals are granted, you have to prove that the player had a medical condition that necessitated him missing the entire season, and he cannot practice or dress out for games the rest of the season. Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.
that's the way the rule has always been unless its been changed. As I've pointed out I have no problems playing freshmen but you better intend to play them serious minutes once that redshirt is off. The reference to a mysterious injury was in reference to Henderson and Massey who suffered mysterious injuries after playing a couple of plays of their first game.
________ We argue about this each year-- the rules now allow for players to play in a limited number of snaps in non-conference games but still preserve their red-shirt. Next question...
Freshman that played today, that could have redshirted.

Bennett is NOT going to redshirt these guys with his job on the line@!
