Cavan's biggest problem was he was simply uninspring! Have you ever seen anyone look less the part of a coach than Mike Cavan? To me he always looked defeated.

Eric Schumann could coach - defense. Cavan's biggest problem was he couldn't recruit. That's why Phil was left with a bunch of five-foot-nothing receivers and a lot of other guys who weren't really Division I players.

Well, Cavan did recruit a handful of good players, but couldn't hold on to most of them.

There can be real positives from SMU having this crash-and-burn season.

I feel bad that PB could not turn this around, but it is fool-hardy to think it was because he didn't teach the boys how to tackle.

Maybe, just maybe, it will finally force our administration to make the necessary changes. I thought Matt Doherty's class full of Prep school kids was an encouraging sign. I doubt any of his predecessors could have done that.

Now Orsini has to face YOU GUYS and I doubt you will simply buy his line that it was 'coaching' that lead to our demise...hopefully he won't as well.

And I would offer this valuable piece of advice to our next HC. You must bring in substantial JC help, even if on a short-term basis, to keep this team competitive. That was one of PB's biggest downfalls. He started out recruiting with a bang. But before his team could develop, he lost too many games and therefore his recruiting momentum.

Your absolutely right. I really like Phil. I am disappointed for all of us, especially the staff that couldn't get it done. I think he did get outcoached on the field of play but, I also think the school needs a major reality check about a level playing field. So far, we've put ourselves out of a major conference, put ourselves on probation (we're probably the training tool for new NCAA enforcement trainees, since we tend to roll-over and [deleted] on ourselves at the first sign of trouble), hired good people that weren't either up to the job or allowed to do it or both.
Getting Copeland out of here was a good start. We need to rally behind Orsini and let him know that we will be happy to support him as alumns when attempting to get the "field leveled" and one more time open our wallets and put our butts in the seats. But, the school need to prove something to us! Its now up to Turner to prove he is serious, not just setting silly goals, that are unreachable without major changes.
