Phil Bennett is a good man

Postby BUS » Sat Sep 29, 2007 9:35 pm

A good d-coordinater but not a head coach.

Call it micro-managing, call it lack of experience call .. what you will.

Phill Bennett has brought the best talent to SMU since the DP.

Thank you PB for working your best. Do we need to get some Faculty Senate support? - Yes we do. Do we need some different degree programs? - Yes we do.

Are we making cunning game day choices.. no we are not.

Please stay classy and take the 1.2 million dollar we owe you and have a good life with your new wife and become a NFL d-coach. I think this has been a learning or growth period for you and for SMU.

Best to you.
George.

Well said. And with actual thought behind it. How refreshening.

As much as I want to keep with Coach, it's time to move on. What I'm trying to figure out is whether a mid season move is right or wait til the end of the season. I don't know, but I hope Orsini does.

truth is, we collectively failed him as much as he failed us. the crowd was pathetic today, and I don't mean in numbers. People are worn down and Mr. Bennett did not create this mess by any means. He just couldn't quite get us out of it. I do like alot of the players i see on the field and on the sideline right now. The ironic this is we have no depth and strength at linebacker. For years, even in the dismal 90s the one thing we always had was some decent linebacker play.

I knew that attendance would not be good today when I pulled into the parking lot and it wasn't even half full. I have 6 tickets and can usually get 3 or 4 guys to go with me. However, I couldn't find ANYONE today who wanted to go and I imagine that's not going to get any better for the rest of the year. I noticed that only half the normal concession stands were open and I imagine that SMU merchandise sales are slowing down, probably DRAMATICALLY. Orsini will need to do something for next year or he will be losing season ticket sales STARTING WITH ME! I won't cut out all my tickets, but I could easily drop it by half, which will save me $600 for other entertainment that is more rewarding.

If this were all about making young men better human beings than Phil Bennett would be the Coach. Phil is a good and decent man-no question.

This is the mindset that I just don't understand. Coming on a message board and proudly announcing that you are going to drop your support of a SCHOOL that I think you want to see do well. I'm not happy with where we are, so I've made that known to our administration. But I've also offered whatever I can do to help make it better. But I haven't proclaimed that I'm going to stop supporting the kids that represent the school that I cheer for.

I wish more people on this site would offer solutions than resolving themselves to the easy way out of just [deleted] about where we are.

:?: What exactly is there to "lighten up" about? You made a comment that was stupid and ignorant.

I agree, Phil is a class act and has done much for SMU football. However, none of us are satisfied with 6-6 every year. If that is all we are going to reach for, then keep him here. But, I think SMU football can be much more and a new coach will have to try to bring it.

Besides, my own job doesn't award a bonus or keep me employed just for being a good guy and showing up every day.

i was making a comment based on the title of the thread. PB is a good man, I won't dispute that, but that doesn't pay the bills.

Quit getting your panties in a wad.

6-6 every year would be a nice change! I think we are averaging more like 3-8 under bennett.
