It is what it is, just a rumor, but might as well post it here. A new coach will be hired by Homecoming. Does not seem likely to me but thats what I'm hearing. Logic being the following, the longer we wait, the more coaches will be fired which means more competition for jobs. By Sunday, Bennett would have been fired a week and not one interview? Answer, we are not waiting.

I believe it, because Orsini knows who it is right now. All the search committee [deleted] is just a smoke screen. That was part of the deal when Orsini was hired, bring in your guys. PB was gone when Orsini got here, not his guy. Coaching is a fraternity!!!!! Every coach is coaching for someone they know.

Also, it was pretty obvious after the Arkansas State game the Bennett was a dead man walking.

Can Stallion close up his loose ends with his current job prior to Homecoming? For those that don't know Stallion, it should be pretty exciting to see him in person!

It will take as long as it takes. You can't predict these things unless you have already decided on a coach.
It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.

how can you say that? thats totally BS because orsini was responsible for PB staying here in the first place. Orsini just made the wrong move and F'd up pretty bad. PB WAS his guy...but he was mistaken.
but im sure he has the coach he wants locked in.

This would make the most sense for recruiting.

I would submit that it was obvious coming out of pre-season practices. Bennett was quoted BEFORE the TTech game as saying "I wanted to be the guy to turn this program around". Not "I want to be the guy". That was very telling to me. I think he knew he had less of a team this year than last and a tougher schedule to boot. Translation: no way he was going to get the 7 wins and bowl bid he needed to save his job.

What happened to the job having to have been open for a month before a new coach could be officially hired? Or is that a load of crap?

I was the one who brought that up, but I left it open for someone to confirm whether or not that was the policy at SMU. No one ever responded. It may only apply to public organizations such as public schools, city staffs, etc.

Blog pointed out that Doherty was hired within 18 days I believe, so there goes that theory.

Sorry to disagree....but....
Steve-O didn't have the money to pull the trigger. Now we know the money was guaranteed through next year. That would be close to 900k to buy him out last year plus another 4 milllion for a coach. The big time givers just didn't want to spend that much money and several of them were still drinking the kool-aid.
