Joe Alleva, Duke’s athletics director, met with Paul Johnson, Navy’s coach, yesterday to discuss Duke’s open coaching job, two sources in Durham said.
Jack Reale, Johnson’s Atlanta-based agent, did not return a phone call yesterday from the Winston-Salem Journal about Johnson’s interest in the job, which became open Nov. 26 when Ted Roof was fired after four straight losing seasons.
Scott Strasemeier, Navy’s sports-information director, could not say because of school policy if Navy granted Alleva permission to talk to Johnson.

This stuff is starting to drive me crazy. I can not get any work done until we have a coach!

If that doesn't tell you about the SIDs role in this stuff. They are either kept out of the loop until the last minute or they are told to keep their mouths shut.

He is probably a better fit at Duke given his roots. At the same time, NOBODY at Duke cares about football.
Unless we invited the Duke AD to join Johnson on Ford's plane...looks like the 7000 posts about his plane are false.

If he was interviewed by Duke yesterday he may have been flown in for an interview by us yesterday afternoon. Let's hope he likes what he sees.

Did you notice the line that says it is school policy to not say if permission to speak to a coach has been requested? So we may have very well asked permission and they were not going to disclose.

Just a reminder . . .
Former SMU Sports Information Director Jon Jackson is the SID at Duke.
Many on this board who have been around long enough know this.

They are all named SID so I have trouble remembering who is who.

I did notice that. it seems to be a change in tune from the past few days when they said directly that they had not granted permission to anyone.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Ever been to Philly? Every doorman at all thge nice hotels have a three letter name...Sid, Lou, Bud, Joe, Sam, Ron, Rob..next time in Philly, check out this trend, pretty funny. Maybe Andy Reid is our next coach...let me go check the flight plans...giggle, giggle, hey, hey...long live Bevis and Butthead, they would make great PonyFans, fit right in....

Rumor in Duke circles is that the meeting happened as reported but did not have a positive outcome for Duke.
