papawasamustang mentioned Jim Jeffcoat as a DEs coach candidate, and pointed out that Jeffcoat's son (Jackson) is a stud recruit. Sophomore, plays DE.
Rumor has it his daughter is a stud basketball player, too. Also a sophomore, I think I've read. Not sure what her first name is.
Make it a family affair?

Getting Jeffcoat would be great. I don't think it would mean we get Jackson automatically. Jim's too good a guy to make his son to come here unless he really wanted to. But Jeffcoat would be great if we could pry him away from his insurance business.
Would also like to see us keep Joe Sawyer, the D-line coach. He's a great coach and the players seem to like him. He's a J.J. Pearce grad so he's got local ties that most of the new coaches won't have.

I'd love to see Coach Sawyer (coached DTs, not the whole D line) brought back. He was the first to get after Youri Yenga and Ryan Leonard, and he pushed Bennett hard to sign Mitch Enright. You're right - the players love him, including players who aren't at his position. Same deal with Coach Edmondson - a lot of players like him, and he's a terrific recruiter (he got us Emmanuel Sanders, among others). Coach Jones needs a few Texas guys on the staff, and these two would be great assets.
I like the Jeffcoat idea, too. Talk about a guy who knows what it takes to get to the NFL, having played forever and coached in the NFL. He knows what they're looking for, and if there's someone who can demonstrate what he's talking about, Jeffcoat would be that guy. Would love to see what he could do with Patrick Handy, Adrian Dizer, Jordan Johnson, Youri Yenga, Josh Robinson, etc.

Sorry...Don't want anyone from the old coaching staff...New staff, new vision, no distractions...We need to get rid of everything connected with loosing not matter how great they are...

Not even Vic? I've heard that JJ has a strength coach that has been with him for years and does a great job, but I like having Vic on staff. Adds a little tradition.

Vic was not hired by Bennett...He is an Orsini hire...I'm talking direct Bennett hires with the baggage of loosing and the distrust from the players that comes with it...Vic has been here one year and is not part of the Bennett Clan...

Didn't know that. But still, would JJ keep him on staff?

Last I heard, Jim Jeffcoat is an Allstate agent in the DFW area, has been doing it for a while, and is pretty successful at it. Does anyone know if he is still doing this and/or if he has any coaching experience?

He was an assistant coach with some rag-tag outfit called the Dallas Cowboys.

Vic is the strenght coach for all SMU athletics, not just football, so he does not get hired/fired by the football coach. JJ can make a suggestion or bring in a guy, but I think he will find Vic very agreeable . . . and June coached against Vic when he played here.
Sports, and all that implies.

Yes, I used to be an Allstate employee and would run into him at agency meetings infrequetly. Super nice guy. I vividly remember his playing days but truly forgot (or never knew) he worked as an assistant coach.

How about making Ken Norton defensive coordinator (is he ready to be a coordinator?) and bringing in Jeffcoat to coach the DEs?
Think those two could get in a few doors for recruiting?
