OT: I understand the draw of returning to your alma mater...

... but why would you leave a major college program where you are the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach to go to another major college program and be their running backs coach... even if it is your alma mater?

Oh for those of you who don't check the DMN colleges blog religiously like I do... Applewhite is returning to UT.

....

Then again, I guess if I were a coach, the draw to return to SMU would be quite strong.

Maybe Mack is grooming him as the heir apparent. That's the only other valid reason I could think of..... well that and his wife might have wanted to return to the state of Texas.

Add to that the $50,000 buyout to his contract. While $50,000 may turn out to be peanuts over the long haul, considering it is 1/5 of his current salary that is a sizeable hit.

Well, for one thing, he needed a job. Saban was fixin' to nix him. So, it was Texas or somewhere else - but it wasn't gonna be Alabama in '08.

Don't quite know if that is true. I've known some hotties from 'Bama, and I've seen quite a few girls that are a little "earthy" for most of ours tastes down in Austin.

Mack has already said that the $50,000 buyout will be taken care of by UT boosters so it is a non-issue.

I have degrees from both institutions so I feel uniquely qualified to comment. I would say that it is a very tight race. The major difference that I found between the two places is that Alabama women are, as you would expect, VERY Southern. If you like that way of thinking and way of life, the BAMA girl is the way to go.
