College Football News has the "Pulling No Punches" Segment on the WAC out. Nothing new here <A HREF="http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2003/Columnists/Fiu/PNP_WAC.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2003/Columnists/Fiu/PNP_WAC.htm</A>

Another interesting thing they have out is their "Landmine Games 2003". For each team they list the game that they have the best chance to lose to an inferior team. For the second year in a row we made OSU's list as their landmine team.
Our landmine team is Tulsa.

<A HREF="http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2003/Preview/landmines_every_team.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.collegefootballnews.com/2003/Preview/landmines_every_team.htm</A>

Here's to hoping CFN is right this year...at least about OSU's landmine team.

If we prove to be a landmine for the Cowboys by upsetting OSU, think of the boost that'll give the coaches in recruiting!

I would take a win over Okla St versus a loss to Tulsa. A win over a ranked team does more for us than a late-season loss to a has-been.

Tulsa a has-been? I would call them a never-was.

Tulsa won 6 straight Missouri Valley Conference championships in the early-mid 80's. They've only had two winning seasons since then, however.

Tulsa has appeared in two bowl games since we went on the DP. They finished #21 in the final AP poll of 1991. This includes two WINNING seasons. They are Ohio State compared to us.

What have we done since 1986?

And yes, I know that they have completely blown in the last 10 years and are 2 and 8 all-time versus the Ponies.

I do remmber Twilley and Rhome (SP?). One of Hayden Fry's more goofy moves was to run Rhome off at SMU after Rome had led the nation in passing percentage the year before becasue we were going to run the ball. Unfortunately, we didn't run it very far.

Tulsa has never beaten SMU in the WAC. SMU is now 7-0 vs Tulsa since WAC play began.

Which eliminates any Tulsa=Ohio State comparisons.

My point exactly. I would much rather beat a team that has handed OU its shorts a couple years in a row. They are hot and newsworthy. If we lose to Tulsa, so what, they were due!

Nevermind that SMU has won all of the WAC meetings against Tulsa, something like 6 years in a row, what separates the two FOOTBALL programs right now is Ford Stadium vs. Skelly. And, SMU has Phil Bennett, while Tulsa's coach has been embattled since he got there. On the other hand, Tulsa chose to invest in a basketball arena and we have not done a thing to Moody.

I see your point Smooboy, but if some miracle on the hilltop does happen and we send the cowboys packing it would lead me to believe we have a chance at a pretty good season, and I sure as hell don't want to lose to stinking Tulsa! And we all should be mindful of last year. We squeaked out a 24-21 victory over the golden wind.

Hoop Fan also has a good point about Tulsa B-ball. I admire them for seeing an area of their athletics that they excel in and investing in it. It's better to be good at one thing than it is be crappy at everything.
