Here's the smumustangs.com version of events:

http://www.smumustangs.com/news/news_release.asp?id=3289

I'm hoping someone who was there last night can give a little more "in depth" analysis.

That about sums it up. TTech was on hand and maybe Bennett knew that. Several starters on the sidelines. See you Saturday!

A few highlights - though it is hard to tell since they were not goig full speed -

Warren is going to provide some excitement.
The younger linebackers looked ready now.
Kicking much improved (could only go up)
Bartel looked solid.
I counted two drops out of not many throws -
Bottom line - could not tell much - short practice, mixed starters with non starters, and very early whistles - not complaining - I trust the staff to know what they are doing - but I am sure ready to see a game.

Random thoughts from the scrimmage. Not enough action for the 1st teamers to tell much but:
-Jonas looked pretty sharp out there, looks like he had regained some speed for sure.
-kicking game looked more solid. The ball wasn't squirting off McMurtrys foot like it often did before.
- freshmen are noticeably bigger and more athletic than Cavan days.
-Avery Cleveland, Zack Hall and Cory Muse look like absolute studs at linebacker.
-Desmond Jones looks like a horse. If Bonds is ahead of him at this point, that bodes well.
-CD Moss and Fred Turner look like speed demons.
-Chris Phillips. I say this only so out of towners can get an idea, but he looks like a big Michael Vick out there. Same body type and southpaw thrower. Phillips showed good throwing motion. He didn't scramble so hard to say how elusive he is, but he looks very athletic.
-I only noticed one run by Massey, but his legs are huge.
-Hot Dogs were surprisingly good quality, which is probably the most useful point I can make about the scrimmage.

The future is looking bright for the Stangs, but I have no idea what to expect next week and for this season for that matter.

Ha. Sounds pretty positive! I can at least say that we're in a MUCH better position than we were last year! Bennett is the MAN.

btw- what unis are we wearing for the TTech game?

I think I saw where they were red at home, so we would be in white I would suppose.

Yeah, my understanding is white jerseys with gray pants. I think it sounds pretty sharp.

- Massey looked really quick. Hard to tell anything since he was with basically the third or fourth team against the first team D, but he was really quick.

- Of the receivers, there didn't seem to be a lot of drops.Rushbrook and Comet were held out of the scrimmage. I know Warren was out there for one of them, and Griffen played. I am not sure who started as the third receiver? Anyone have info on this? Warren was playing as the 2 receiver. I think the only reason Griffen played was because Taylor is hurt (he was the only starting receiver out there).

- Chris Phillips looked sharp and had one great pass. I found it interesting that he was on the White team. Does that mean that he is ahead of Meeks and Nixon?

- Warren will get serious PT this year as a kick returner and a backup receiver.

Defensively:

- Jones looked great. If Bonds is ahead of him, our DT will be better than expected!

- I really liked Sturdivant's play. He made a nice play in pass defense and looked really quick. I am not sure if he will be redshirted, because he was on the White team as well. I think the Blues were basically scout/redshirt, which is why all three of the frosh linebackers were over there.

- CD Moss could have skipped the practice and just written a letter to Bennett asking to be redshirted, because it would have accomplished the same thing Image.

- The kicking game looks improved.

- Menz is still an inconsistant punter, but didn't hit any horrible kicks.

I don't think we will know a thing until after first two games. With a modified scrimage there is no way to tell. Blue seem to hold their own against the white. But two many were sitting out to tell.

Note that the holders for the kickers did not fumble one snap.

Highlights--seeing Mr C walk into Ford Stadium

--Listening to Arthur Whittington talk about his career and show off his Oakland Raiders Super Bowl ring.

--Jonas Rutledge--he is back, definitely.

--The White ( mostly first and second team) tore up the Blue (mostly scout and red-shirts) as expected so hard to say anything one way or the other about the team as a whole. We will be better than last year but this is still a very young team. Once they settle down after the first few games they may have a good run.

--Looking forward to Lubbock. Hope there are no sand storms. I have experienced one of those and don't want to again.

JasonB, we saw things pretty much the same way, but I think I was more impressed by the freshman linebacks than you sound. And Moss made a bunch of mistakes, but he also handled the ball alot and was in the middle of the action. I like his potential, probably just needs to settles down.

JasonB,

"- Chris Phillips looked sharp and had one great pass. I found it interesting that he was on the White team. Does that mean that he is ahead of Meeks and Nixon?"

I think quite the opposite, Meeks & Nixon must have a better understanding to run the offense (Back up slots) Phillips ran two well designed series for the whites, BUT I hope they RS Meeks & Phillips.

Nixon did well for what he was asked to do and with Wallis to come, we will be fine at QB.
There were too many players held out (not Dressed) for this time of the year, (it was just a light workout) I hope it's just precautionary !!!
