Anybody catch the quote from Aikman in yesterday's paper?
My ties are with UCLA, but anything I can do to help with this program here – it’s basically a program I’ve adopted since it’s right here in my back yard – I’d be happy to do.

I would guess it would be nearly impossible for him to make any games since he is always on the road with his TV gig.

Wonder what his level of participation might be. It certainly does not hurt recruiting to see him at a practice or game.

I certainly would not put him into any formal position. That is when he would be limited on what he could do. Much rather just have him continue to talk up the program and be visible at any appropriate venues where he might "bump" into potential commits

But why would he steer any top recruit to SMU over Westwood High?

That USC-UCLA rivalry is very underrated...I'm sure they've thrown enough O.J. Simpson haymakers your way.

OJ
Great Football player but he truly is an embarrassment to the University now.
BTW the pic was from the 1967 National Championship decider.

The school has pretty much given him its version of the Heisman, hasn't it?
UCLA kids give you guys any business about the school being in Watts?

No one talks about him much except when new revelations are revealed: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/books/0 ... index.htmlMore concerns now about the Reggie Bush fiasco. George S. Patton wrote:UCLA kids give you guys any business about the school being in Watts?
It is hard to believe that the USC campus when founded was in a very posh area of LA.
Although not technically in Watts it is still a pretty ethnic area. The Row (Fraternity and Sorority Houses) is an island.
BTW did you see the link about USC-UCLA going back to both teams wearing home unis when they play this December:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/allthin ... la-bo.html
Both USC coach Pete Carroll and UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel have agreed that the home team will decline the penalty and burn a timeout to give the proverbial finger salute to the NCAA.
I'm just a traditionalist at heart.

Glad to hear that's coming back. I can remember going to watch LA Rams games in the Coliseum and then walking through the campus.
There was a Sunday night game against Pittsburgh where I thought the deal was going to go down. I was about 9 or 10 then.

I'm glad Carroll and Neuheisel agreed. Probably the last time they ever agree again.
The Row tram for the sororities was nicknamed the "rape escape".
The neighborhood can be pretty rough at night, but most people around the campus area are great as well as some of the "soul food" restaurants.

I think Aikman could be a big help with recruiting etc.

There is currently a vast gulf between the recruits we'd kill to get, and the ones that will be wavering on UCLA. That doesn't even take into account that not every good-ol' boy wants to play Jethro Bodine out west.
But like others have said on this thread, even if he justs ups the team's profile, it's worth noting.
