I think all-preseason Watch Lists should be abolished. They are the most ridiculous, self serving list of nothing ever foisted upon the College Football scene. They are program fillers for SIDs. Everybody and their brother is nominated and they mean zilch. Here's the 80 some-odd members of the "Watch-List". How many teams in the Big 12 because I could find about 50 in the Big 12 I'd take over Bonilla-sorry that's just the way it is.

totally agree with you Stallion. They basically take the best player at each position from all FBS teams and put them all on the list.

He will have to get healthy, before he gets a chance to do anything. Will has missed 60-70% of camp with injuries.

So Bonilla was named to the watch list. Some players would find motivation in such an honor. Imagine if Bonilla actually elevated his game because he felt he was worthy of a significant award. That of course would help him and the Mustangs. But we should eliminate all this because we would hate to add any motivation to a player.

I absolute and completely disagree with Stallion on this one. As a former player, if I had been named to a watch list, I would have accepted that honor and challenge to elevate my game. Many things motivate a player but recognition of accomplishments goes a long way particularly if one's team sucks.

Congrats to Bonilla and best of luck this season. Bust your tail and win the Butkus award.

He wasn't contributing very much today..........as he was over with a couple of other injured players lifting bags of sand.

So you're telling me that Bonilla was "honored" by being named to a watch-list to later be honored?

it means he's in a select group who will be eligible for the award, i would say that counts as being at least recognized and honored in a small way

some would say it means nothing, just like preseason rankings.

All it means when a player is placed on a watch list is his own SID thinks enough of him to nominate him. The SID fills out a form, sends it in, and the award committee puts him on the watch list. It's that simple. There's no real criteria and no selection process.

The watch lists are created simply to garner more attention for the award. The more players on a watch list, the more mentions in the media the award gets in August. They have no bearing on who wins the award. Sometimes players emerge to win an award who were never on its watch list.

The SIDs try to get their team's best - or most veteran - players on watch lists because that's their job to promote the program. I don't know how much of an honor it is, but it's better to be on a watch list than not on one. At least somebody thinks you're doing a good job.

It is kind of like all of those actors complaining about being nominated for an Oscar. Why do we complain about one of our own being nominated for an award. I kind of think it is nice. I realize the chances of winning are about the same as Stallion praising our recruits but still he is one of ours and we should be happy.
