Will SMU be winless this season? This season has started too similar to many other recent SMU seasons. There has been a lot of talk about progress, the future, and a young team with lots of freshmen and sophmores. I have also heard a lot of talk about 'wait until next year'. We were embarssed at Tech. I bet many Division II teams could have had a better showing than we did. We are underdogs against a Baylor team that was beat at home against a lower echelon C-USA team. Baylor was also humiliated by North Texas. However, we are still 2 point underdogs. It seems that we are amoung the ten worst teams in Division 1 and have been for several years. It looks like we may have a chance of beating UTEP and Tulsa. However, we barely beat these teams last year. Due to our talent level and inability to win games, it would not suprise Johnny Rock if SMU did not win a game this season. However, Johnny Rock hopes he is wrong.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?JohnnyRock - go away.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season? Is Johnny Rock actually PonySnob (or vise versa?)
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad

Re: Will SMU be winless this season?JR's question is not totally stupid. If we lose this week, 2 wins for the season is about what we can expect assuming UTEP and Tulsa show no improvement from last year.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?Since SMU's schedule includes 4 of the countries worst teams, it seems unlikely that the Mustangs would go winless. Not being able to get at least 1 win out of 4 games with Baylor, Rice, UTEP and Tulsa, with Rice and Tulsa at Ford, is fairly unthiinkable.
CPC is not one to get overly optomistic, but looking at the future schedule there are more than a handful of winnable games, even considering past stumblings. Some will tell you that a glass is half empty, and others that the same glass is half full. But all CPC really wants to know is...... does the drink taste good?

Re: Will SMU be winless this season? No, Johnny Rock is not PonySnob. However, he does bring up a good point!
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Will SMU be winless this season? You're right Johnny, SMU will probably never win another game. Your chicken little prediction is a little misplaced when we have never won fewer than 3 WAC games, even in some very lean years. The loss to Tech only counts once and the game was a longshot to begin with. Lets wait a couple weeks before we all go off the deep end.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?Thank you for understanding OlePony. I would love to see us win every game. However, until the team shows me it can win, I have a hard time believing it. I have been a fan since 1992 and I will continue to be a fan. But every year, my frustrations grow. A win at Baylor would be a great boost for this team. The last several seasons we have not had many wins in September, since we schedule difficult non-conference teams. It is hard to stay enthusistic every year when we start conference play with no wins. We will see at Baylor. A loss at Baylor will confirm my prediction. It will demoralize the team if we lose to a team that lost to UAB and N. Texas. However, I hope the team proves me wrong.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?Great Point JR...best point of the day(Also the most valid).
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?Have faith. Lots of faith.. and consume gross amounts of alcohol on gamedays.
It's been said a thousand times by posters like Stallion -- we are still nowhere near the talent level we need to be able to compete with the best WAC teams. I honestly don't think we could win on any given week. We're just not where we want to be. And I hate to say it, but yea, we're still at least 2 years off from fielding a competitive team. Of course, I am also irked by the assistant coaches Bennett currently has on his staff and I believe they aren't doing much in the way of contributing to the success of SMU on the field.
Re: Will SMU be winless this season?i wouldn't be suprised if you all did go winless this season. which is sad because you are in the WAC. maybe baylor only wins one game a year in the big 12, but at least we win one

What makes you think you will win another this year? And we have also beaten Kansas. [This message has been edited by The PonyGrad (edited 09-10-2003).] Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Will SMU be winless this season? And neither of us could this year. BU will go through the Big 11 without a win. This is your last real chance for a win this year.
