Little Chance for a win but....

Postby Duke Blue Blood » Mon Sep 08, 2008 12:55 am

Tech's defense does not look that good either. I do not know that much about Nevada, but I looked at their running backs and O-Line. O-Line is not that big.

Tech gave up 486 yards of offense. Only 264 of that was receiving. Too bad we will not run the ball enough to make up the difference.

Harrell was 19-46 with 2 INT's?!?!

We will still lose, but Tech's defense looks like it is on the same path as it has always been.

Nevada runs the Pistol. Unlike Rusty's failed version of the Pistol, what Nevada does actually works.

"Tech's defense does not look that good either"

I'm pretty sure you don't know what you are talking about. Tech's defense gave up a bunch of FGs after Nevada was given the ball inside the 30. Who cares if a defense gives up a lot of yards if they throw the ball 60-70 times a game. Nothin' but Mike Romo yards signifying nothin'. Tech has outstanding defensive personnel at just about every defensive position.

486 Yards is not outstanding. I don't even need to know ANYTHING about football and I can tell you that is not good.

We will give up more than that.

Hmm. Steve-O and Coach Jones and his assistants all have talked about how his offenses have led the nation in passing. So Coach Jones is a loser?

Also interesting - there's a new DMN story up on the PF.com homepage about how the defense at Tech isn't improving, at least yet, as they hoped it would.

Really-how many TDs did Nevada-a bowl team playing at home score? Passing yards are the MOST overrated stats in Football. Easily. Usually means you lost. Check out 3rd and 4th Down Conversion, Turnovers and Red Zone conversions. Good teams give up passing yards-its because the opponent is behind. Maybe 1 SMU defensive player who would see the field at Texas Tech. It will become quite obvious Saturday Nite.

There's some truth to that, sometimes, but there are teams - see Texas Tech, for example - that get tons of passing yards, and it's not often because they're behind and throwing it more than they normally otherwise would. Any stat can be misleading, but if passing stats were that meaningless, the various spread-style offenses wouldn't be as en vogue as they are. Lots of teams are putting up big passing yards, and some of them win.

No, Stallion your constant criticism and negative comments about SMU, its players and coaches and fans is for losers. You haven't had anything positive to say in weeks about the program or SMU. All you wish to do is push your constantly negative agenda, whether is its pushing the quality of the MWC ahead of CUSA, our coaching staff, the selection of our quarterback or anyone that might have the slightest positive thing to say about the program. Why don't you just sign out...Once more I will remind everyone on this board that what you pay for subscriptions to your almighty recruiting services far surpass your financial contribution to the program.

A bowl team that was shutout by defensive powerhouse New Mexico in its bowl game

Well I see a big win over a Division II team has reinvigorated the Cheerleaders. Come back on Saturday Nite and tell us all what statement was incorrect. I'll be looking forward to it,

So at least you admit you are "looking forward to it" (an SMU loss). You are neither a fan nor a supporter of the team. You just want to be able to tell us that you were right. Well, you are not, someone simply mentioned that Tech's defense was not as they had hoped it to be in their first two games. No one said that SMU was going to win, only that Tech didn't seem to fullfill their own aspirations for their defense. I am sure Tech's own coaches, not just the media agree. Don't make someone's comment out to be anything more than it is loser! Just what is your motive? Who at school didn't give proper homege to your one time $250 donation to the Mustang Club--all hail Stallion, all hail a loser!

not sure to whom you are referring. I am calling for a 70-38 Tech win over a porous defense that has zero pass rush, can't stop the run and can't keep contain.

Didn't mean to confuse the issue with a fact...but Nevada sucks too. Tech should've beaten them by 30.

And for those that thought Tech struggled vs the 1AA team in week 1, it must've been a much better 1aa team than Tx State. Eastern Washington damn near beat Colorado on Saturday. They had the ball and were driving at the end of a tie game, then did almost the same thing Memphis did during Rice. Wonder how much more patience CU would've had with Hawkins had EWU pulled it out.

Rice's defense is not that great. Memphis seemed to have their will with them as well, and look what they did to us. Also, TT's defense practices against pretty much the same offense that we have week in and week out. They have two deep talent. Also, remember from our days in WAC, Nevada is at high altitude. That's a home field advantage for them.
