SMU ridiculed by TCU - TCU Daily Skiffhttp://blogs.tcudailyskiff.com/uncategorized/2008/10/13/give-me-a-break-just-not-on-a-game-day/
Daily Skiff Blog October 13th, 2008 Give Me a Break! Just Not on a Game Day. The SMU Mustangs lead the undefeated University of Tulsa at Gerald J.Ford Stadium by a score of 17-13 at the half, Saturday. The Mustangs lead through the fourth quarter untill Tulsa scored twice in close to a minute to eventually take the game. SMU had the ball in Tulsa territory with a minute left but reached fourth down and two and threw a five yard fade route which was dropped by the SMU reciever. While SMU put up a vallient effort, the SMU students and fans seemed not to. The stadium was maybe a third full, and the student section went about 5 rows deep. The reason for this was SMU’s fall break, running from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14, which provided an opportunity for students to return home. Therefore, the students have some excuse for the lack of attendence at the game. The responsible party here is the SMU administration. Why was fall break schedualed during a home football game, especially a game against a perenial bowl contender, who just happend to be one of the few undefeated teams left in the nation this year? Now the administration did not know Tulsa would be undefeated, but then why did the students not wait a day to travel home and stay to support their ’stangs? Hopefully TCU would never make this mistake, but if a break was scheduled during a home football game, especially against a winning program, the Horned Frog faithful would hopefully make a better showing than this. Would the TCU students stay around for the game? What are your thoughts? pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.
I think it was actually C-USA that screwed us on this. We asked CUSA not to schedule a home game for us that week because of Fall Break and TX-OU, but they shot us the bird and gave us a conference home game that week anyway.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."
Correct - C-USA scheduled the game, not SMU. It tastes better when served from a Bowl (game)!
Just goes to show how p!ss poor TCU journalists are at verifying their info. The story claims the student section was five rows deep. Where? There is no way 26 students take up 5 rows.
As for the rest of the story, I say good job TCU. Why, you ask? Does anyone think for a second if we were on the other side of such a lopsided difference in success that we wouldn't demand some serious smacktalking by the Daily Campus?
Obviously hard up for a "story". You'd think there would be some late-breaking rodeo news to report.
Re: SMU ridiculed by TCU - TCU Daily Skiff
Is this a new syndrome? Is this a JJ syndrome or something? It seems we all of a sudden get a lot of attention from other schools and the dislike, hatred and desire to continue to see us fail seems much more virulent this season. And we haven't even threatened anyone yet!
Could it be a phobia developing that SMU might actually get its act together and start beating folks soon? One wonders.
most are from texas so i would assume it would be easier....my guess is that SMU's student pop is about 50% in state "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
But even rain will keep TCU students away from their games. They have trouble getting people in from their tailgates as well. They are more interested than the bulk of SMU students, but not much more so.
you are right on. but having said that, i am glad someone is trying to stoke the fires of this rivalry.
At least our students have an excuse for not going to our games - i dont agree with it but there is a reason at least......TCU has a nice team and their students run to Dallas every weekend and blow off their own games....not that I blame them.
