Despite Oklahoma's win, Texas moves up to No. 2
by FoxSports.com After its dominating win over Texas Tech Saturday night in Norman, Oklahoma made a compelling case to be playing for the national title in Miami. But it's the team that handed the Sooners their only loss of the season who would be playing in the BCS championship game against No. 1 Alabama if the season ended Sunday. With the Red Raiders' 65-21 loss, Big 12 rival Texas took over the No. 2 spot in this week's BCS standings with the Sooners trailing right behind at No. 3 after last week's stint at No. 5. Florida, meanwhile, stayed put at No. 4 even after its rout of The Citadel in Gainesville, and USC (No. 5) and Utah (No. 6) each moved up a spot from its positions last week. Texas Tech, on the other hand, dropped to No. 7, one spot ahead of Penn State, which clinched a Rose Bowl berth Saturday with a win over Big Ten rival Michigan State yet failed to move up in this week's standings. Boise State, moving to 11-0 on the season with its 41-34 win over Nevada, didn't see any upward movement either, remaining at No. 9, a position that would still not earn the Broncos a BCS bowl bid if they're there when the final BCS standings are announced Dec 7. While the Big 12 could have two teams in BCS bowls in January, the Big Ten could also have two teams in the BCS equation when the regular season concludes, as Ohio State remained at No. 10 this week with its blowout victory over longtime rival Michigan. TCU, out of the Mountain West, will still need outside help after moving up to No. 14 this week with its win over Air Force, and MAC representative Ball State, which rallied in the fourth quarter to overcome Central Michigan on Wednesday, climbed two spots to No. 15. The 11-0 Cardinals, however, need a win Tuesday against Western Michigan and several teams ahead of them in the standings to lose in the next two weeks to claim an at-large berth. so Tech is now on the outside looking in and hoping someone ahead of them loses in their rivalry game...only chance Tech makes a BCS game.
That has the makings of a poll question...who is most likely to choke in their rivalry game? USC or Oregon State? Texas or OU? Alabama or Florida?
