If OU makes it and UT does not

Postby SMU21TCU10 » Mon Nov 24, 2008 3:13 pm

Then all the talk about how with the BCS system the regular season is a playoff is bs! I keep Hearing about who will end up in the big 12 championship game from the south? Umm if it is between UT and Oklahoma, UT beat OU at a neutral sight. Both have the same record. So there should be no discussion. I don't understand why people are even bringing up the subject. Because like I said. If OU went over Texas, then that would just prove that the BCS regular season is not a playoff!

Don't disagree, but this is what we have to live with. Late-season losses do more damange than early season losses. It's always been that way. IF UT had taken care of business against Tech, this wouldn't be an issue, so it's mostly their own fault. OU made their case by beating the snot out of Tech.

I wouldn't consider it an injustice for OU to to go to the Big 12 title game at this point, assuming they beat Ok State, which I assume they will after they beat Ok State as their computer-based ranking will go up with another W over a high-quality opponent.

If Oklahoma does indeed jump Texas I think its even worse than when Auburn went undefeated and left out of the national championship game b/c Texas and OU have already settled the matter on the field. A double digit win at a neutral site game should trump any and all arguments in favor of Texas. Regardless of what Oklahoma has done, if the two teams have identical records then their head to head matchup should be the deciding factor. Of course the BCS is an absolute joke and this is just further proof. However, screwing over a national powerhouse like Texas might be enough to get the powers that be on board with getting rid of this rediculous system. Don't underestimate how influential the University of Texas can be in these kind of things.

Boomer Sooner. Have no use for UT. They would be getting done to them what the BCS does to all non-BCS schools on an annual basis. Really hope it happens. TCU is going to wind up in one of the MWC's pitiful bowls when in fact they could beat half the teams in the top ten. The ACC and BE will have teams in the BCS bowls with 3 or 4 losses. Sympathy for Texas?? Nope.
When will I start feeling stimulated??

UT wont get jumped in the BCS because the computers know they arent a fraud like UF, thats why they got jumped.

no matter what, the "overrated" big xii as some of you would call them will yet again have 2 teams in the BCS

Absolutely - the more big schools (and fans) that get upset and feel like they got ripped off the better. I'd love for USC, Florida and UT to all feel like they got hosed.

Big X11 not overrated at all. TT, OU, and UT all deserve to be in a BCS bowl. That is what will be so sweet if UT doesn't get in. More pain.

mathman,

So its your hatred of UT that is dictating your position on this issue and not serious evidence correct? Just wanna make sure b/c if you can give me a legit explanation of why OU should jump Texas then I've got a wonderful piece of ocean front property in New Mexico I'd love for you to take off my hands.

What are you going to do when it happens? That is what everyone is saying is going to happen if next week's games go as predicted. Fair?? Who cares. BCS isn't fair. I don't need to give "serious evidence" whatever that might mean. It is probably going to happen. Deal with it. And I already have some ocean front property but thanks for the thought anyway.

I think UT deserves it because they proved it on a neutral field but there is a rational argument to be made for OU. ie that in a 3 way Big 12 tie they essentially played the same tough schedule as UT and Tech BUT ALSO scheduled and beat quality teams like TCU and Cinncinati both who are highly ranked and competitive for conference championships. (If you want quality scheduling you've got to give them credit for a quality win). Plus they were dominant in a Division Championship level game. But the way I see it-Tech disqualified itself from any consideration even though tied in the standings. So it comes down to a straight UT/OU comparison and UT won that argument on the field.

And Texas Tech beat Texas and all three have the same W-L so if you give UT a higher ranking than OU, logically you should rate TT higher than UT...

Thank the Dear Lord it is all a MYTH! :P

Anybody for a real playoff?
