For perspective, last year's opener drew 22K and the high was 31K for TCU. Last edited by SmooBoy on Thu Jul 30, 2009 3:06 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openerSMU's June Jones: "We're going to sell out the first game."
2:29 PM Thu, Jul 30, 2009 Kate Hairopoulos/Reporter SMU coach June Jones' confidence is truly unshakable. During Conference USA's media event today, he looked me in the eye and said this: "We're going to sell out the first game. You watch. It's going to be exciting." Pardon me, SMU fans, but apparently my doubt showed - big time. Jones chided me a little for my skepticism. "We'll just have to surprise you," Jones said. SMU won't make an official announcement until next week, but Jones dropped hints about an initiative to sell-out 32,000-seat Ford Stadium for the Stephen F. Austin game on Sept. 5. Do you think it can be done? SMU averaged 19,780 fans last season and didn't sell out once. Jones said he knows fans will come with wins, wins he expects to come even after last season's 1-11 record. "I'm more optimistic after being 1-11 than I was when I came here last year," Jones said. "I see things changing. I know what needed to be done, and I can see it's getting done."
Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openerKind of funny how pathetic 32,000 at a game really is. Reminds me of central Florida at the Citrus bowl when they averaged 18,000-20,000 a game. Now they average more with their on campus stadium than anyone in CUSA at 46,000ish. Nothing compared to Penn state. @ 108,000.
I Know Jones will win, but if SMU wins a lot, and they still can’t fill that stadium. I put that totally on the Alum not involved. I wonder what the numbers are each year that graduate times the last 30 years multiplied by thier business associates, family, and friends. I think a small number of that group would pack little ole beautiful Ford stadium. ![]() Last edited by One Trick Pony on Thu Jul 30, 2009 6:15 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openerSMU might have changed the definition of "sell-out" over the summer. If that's the case, SMU may be in for quite a few sell outs this fall.

Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openermaybe we should get to a bowl first, then have a good team with a winning record coming back, and stage OPERATION SELLOUT!!!
wait...that's what Rice does...and they dont.
Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openerFor him to make such a bold statement, we must have something in the works. Perhaps a post game concert by someone relevent. I'm not sure even free tickets would do it.
Who do you think Leigh Steinberg could get? "I think Couchem is right."

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA openerMaybe someone in the circle of champions is going to purchase whatever individual tickets aren't sold and distribute them to the community. It would technically still be a sell-out correct?
