SMU Announces "WHITE OUT" For Season Opener

Mustang Fans Asked To Wear White

Sept. 2, 2009

DALLAS (SMU) - The DFW Metroplex sees little in the way of snow, and white-outs are few and far between. The SMU Mustangs are hoping to change that on Sept. 5th, however, as the SMU Athletic Department today announced a "WHITE OUT" for the season opener, when the Mustangs take on Stephen F. Austin. Fans attending the game are asked to wear white to show support for the Mustangs.

To aid in the effort, the SMU Athletic Department will distribute white adidas "All Grit. No Quit." t-shirts to the first 2,500 students and 500 faculty/staff members through the gates on gameday.

Fans are encouraged to get their tickets early, as this game is nearly sold out. For tickets, call the SMU Ticket Office at 214-SMU-GAME.

Doesn't the Monkey's guitarist have the term White Out trademarked?

Glad I just bought a white SMU shirt

Can we assume the team is wearing white as well?

There was talk of the team wearing white but I believe it was vetoed by administration. The matter may not be completely settled yet, however.

I don't really own anything white. I'll be wearing what I have.

I organized the "red out" last year at the Memphis game in honor of you Mrydel. They should do red, that way if people don't show up the stadium still looks all red!

I think a "red out" would be pretty cool as well. At least it would be a school color.

White Outs and Black Outs are lame when there is absolutely nothing wrong with our blue or red. That only makes sense for schools that have a stupid primary color like purple.

With all due respect, "blue-outs" or "red-outs" or "____-outs" look bad on TV. They people look like empty seats. Not to be confused with the actual empty seats.

"_____ outs" only look good in bball arenas in my opinion. I would hope the team would be wearing white as well, if they want a "white out."

They look good at hockey games too. However, if the color scheme has orange, gold or purple that seems to work okay as stadia (think Clemson).
