it makes me nauseous

Postby LA_Mustang » Sat Sep 26, 2009 9:58 am

to watch College Gameday and see #17 UH get a feature on their game today as they talk about their bright, young coach, their very talented offense, and about them having their highest ranking years.......then have that followed by a feature on #15 TC-who and hear how they have one of the best defenses in the country, and will battle Clemson today. Meanwhile, we barely beat a division II team at home and lose to what I've heard called one of the slowest, pathetic teams in PAC-10 history. It's the same b.s. and same excuses every year. But I guess I will just have to take a little pride in TC-who, Houston, Baylor and Tulsa making themselves relevant in college football....as we sit back with our $2 million dollar coach and continue to suck. I just have to remember that our coach has forgotten more football than I'll ever know.....whatever that's worth?

btw, can you imagine what TC-who's D will do to Bo - hide the kids for that one.

OMG...be patient my friend as this full transition hasn't transpired yet....JJ 's first recruiting class was a crew of mostly kids that they recruited /scouted for Hawaii and formed relationships with of which only a few would go to SMU and others who didn't have many options that late in the recruiting season. This years athletes on campus that were recruited are much more athletic than we have seen in years and the next group of 18 ( and counting) commits promises to be a an even more athletic group. Once these several years of recruiting hauls matures we will be fine. It takes just a little longer than one season and 3 games......

that was a predictable response. let's not look at the facts, the talent level and obvious trends to see where this thing is headed. the theme always has been and probably always will be - SMU: just wait until next year!!
btw, were you one of the many saying Doherty's 07 freshmen class one of the best in SMU history? that loud group has almost completely disappeared??

LA says a lot of things in his self-pity-party that are true, except he left out the part that we're 2-1, which is better than I predicted to this point. Hell there are a lot of teams that wish they were 2-1 right now with a week off. When is the last time SMU was 2-1. I am not going to get on the crybaby express with so many games left to be played, check in with me later

Well in this case you really do have to wait until next year as the coaching and recruiting pattern is set.....previous years was just BS..this isn't. And no I didn't really think that Doh's 2007 class was that good as if you look at his recruits and what they did in high school doesn't compute yet ..McCoy was a lucky recruit and they need a strong face up big that has a pedigree.....don't have one yet.

The main difference in this current regime vs all the previous ones, is we have a coach who has already turned around a downtrodden program in Hawaii, and there is no reason to think he cant do it here.

It takes a special kind of coach to be able to turn things around at a school with a history of losing, I think JJ is that kind of coach.

The fact is that anyone who thought that a decades long bottom dwelling team would get ranked high enough to be featured on College Gameday simply by hiring a $2million coach and giving him less than two years and one real recruiting class is an idiot. That's the fact you pointed out.

I never implied that we should be featured on Gameday...I just said it makes me sick to see our in-state "supposed" equals featured....and we have had to deal with TCU ranked for years now. The bottom line is we have a QB who doesn't have a freaking clue. He threw 4 picks against a terrible defense and lost the game for us. Unless JJ is searching the JUCO rosters we are going into next season with an untested redshirt freshman, or a junior who throws more picks than TDs. That doesn't give me much optimism

Or a senior transfer from a D-1 school.

LA does beg the question:
Colorado State went bowling last year with a first year coach and they're 3-0 this year, playing BYU today. School's do turn it around in one year.

(And of course, many don't.)

It does seem like we've heard how long it takes to win for a long, long time.....

Colorado State wasn't quite as bad as we were.

Not even close and they have had several years of good recruiting from the previous regime and good athletes are already there...that program wasn't an empty cupboard by any means....ours was threadbare and had no chance until we get the fast and big guys in here....
